CURRIE: Ewart Vincent. Ewart passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Bayside Personal Care Home on Thursday, November 5, 2009, at the age of 84 years. Ewart was born June 11, 1925 to Dan and Anna Currie. He grew up on the family farm with siblings, Jim, Gordon, Art, Connie (Wilford), Bernice (Meredith), Marie (Garrison), and Enid (Burnett). Ewart left school at an early age to help his ailing father on the farm. He joined the Air Force in 1944 being stationed in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. He returned home to resume farming in 1946. On October 20, 1949, he married Susan Fleming. Together they raised a family of 6 children. They had just celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary. Ewart and Susan farmed together until 1992 when they retired to Killarney. He took great pride in his cattle and grain farm. He sold off the cattle in 1990 at which time he converted part of the pasture into a mini-golf course since he had received a set of golf clubs for his 65th birthday.Ewart and Susan took many trips to Raduim, B.C. to attend the annual Currie Family Reunion, of which golf was a big part. He was even on the winning team one year. They also had a Maritime tour in the fall of 1995 and a British Isles tour in June 1996. He was a shy, quiet man, who took great pride in his family and lifestyle. Ewart is survived by his loving wife Susan, of 60 years, Children Evelyn (Les) Mein of Killarney, Doug of Belmont, Carolyn Phillips (friend Lawrence Murray) of Brandon, Leslie (Sandy) of Brandon, Robert (Carla) of Belmont, and Larry (Arlene) of Victoria, B.C. There are 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters Connie (Dennis) Wilford of Taber, Alberta, Marie (Bruce) Garrison of Victoria B.C, Bernice Meredith of Bemidji Minn., and Enid Burnett of Victoria, B.C. Brothers Gordon of Calgary, and Arthur (Onagh) of Red Deer, Alberta. Also surviving is brother in-law Rick (Sharon) Fleming of Belmont, Irene Fleming of Belmont, Janet (Ken) Bird of Thorsby, Alberta, Cathy Fleming of Balmoral, and daughter in-law Wanda Currie. Also many nieces, nephews, cousins and sister in-law Ruth Currie of Sault St. Marie, Ont. Ewart was predeceased by his parents Dan and Anna Currie, mother and father in-law Dave and Teenie Fleming, brother Jim, sisters-in-law Rose Currie, Teenie Malzensky, Grace Kowalyck, brothers in-law Dave and Peter Fleming, Bill Meredith and Brian Burnett. A Celebration of Ewart’s life will be held at Knox United Church, Belmont, Manitoba, on Tuesday November 10, 2009at 2:00 pm with Elizabeth Goodson officiating. Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his four sons Doug, Leslie, Robert, and Larry, as well as sons in-lawLes Mein and Lawrence Murray. Following the interment, a reception will be held in the Belmont Community Hall. All are welcome.
