KRUSCHEL: Adam Kruschel beloved husband of Joy Kruschel and father of Vickey Lowdon (Brian), Ron (Linda), Shirley Smith (Ron), Cathy Spencer (Larry) and Leanne Keffer (Gord), passed away peacefully on November 7, 2009 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre at the age of 81 years. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Troy (Heather), Tracey (Shane), Jodi (Paul), Chad (Jen), Chelsea (Rich), Graham (Misty), Jeff (Christie), Jeremy (Jolin), Ashley, Josh (Kerri) and Marissa and his great-grandchildren: Erin, Justice, Desmond, Ethan, Austin, Lily, Dylan, Maia, Kady and Adam. Adam was born in Morden, Manitoba and was the only son of the late Martha and Ertman Kruschel. He and his father farmed near Deloraine for many years. Adam then took a job in Whitewater, working in the oil fields. In 1955, he moved his family to Brandon to take a job with Anglo. He worked there until it closed in 1969, and then was employed with Manitoba Telephone System where he worked until his retirement in 1989. In the first year of his retirement, he was diagnosed with cancer and survived surgery and many treatments. A few years later, he was struck with cancer a second time and fought once again to survive more surgery and treatments. He told his grandchildren that he fought both of these battles so he could spend more time with them. It gave him great pleasure to be able to attend five of his grandchildren’s weddings and to meet nine of his great-grandchildren. Adam and his wife Joy were married for 62 years and served as an example of enduring love and commitment to each other. During their life together they lived in Deloraine and Brandon. They moved into Victoria Landing in 2007 and recently Joy moved to Rideau Park to receive nursing care. This separation from each other had a profound effect on both of them. Adam enjoyed a number of hobbies; he hunted geese, ducks and deer and rarely missed a season. He also loved to fish and took many trips with his son, grandsons and sons-in-law to Catastrophe Lake, Lake of the Prairies and Bower Lake. He caught many fish during these trips but sometimes the fishermen were skunked by the elusive pickerel. Adam also enjoyed playing cards and was involved in cribbage clubs at the Sokol Hall and ANAF. He excelled at the game, and taught his children and grandchildren to play, although none of us could count cards as quickly as he could. Adam also had an ear for music and played the harmonica, accordion and spoons. He was a great dancer, and was light on his feet and rarely missed a chance to polka. Adam was a loving man committed to his family. He loved celebrating the holidays surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all of us. We love you Dad and will hold you in our hearts forever. We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to the exceptional staff on 200 at the Assiniboine Centre for their care and compassion given to Dad and our family. Special thanks also to Rev. Joe Ball for his time, consideration and the comfort given to Dad and our family. Lastly, we would like to thank Kurt Ardron from Brockie Donovan, for his kindness, guidance and professionalism. In lieu of flowers if friends so desire, donations in Adam’s memory can be made to Brandon Regional Health Centre, Western Manitoba Cancer Center Project, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 2B3
