THIRY: Surrounded by his family, Arthur Richard "Art" passed away peacefully on November 8, 2009 at the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon, MB. Art was born at Kennedy, Saskatchewan on March 25, 1936. He was the youngest son of Leon and Edna Thiry. In 1950, the family left Saskatchewan and moved to a farm south of Oak Lake, MB. Art attended Fletwood and Hesselwood schools. As a young man he worked as a mechanic, on the oil rigs and as a crane operator before returning to the farm. In 1960, he married Shirley Clark. They built a home on the farm where they raised their three children. They spent countless hours toting kids to and from hockey and figure skating. Art gave true meaning to the term "Hockey Dad." Sadly, Shirley passed away in 1981. In 1983, Art married Arlene Lowton and together they continued to farm Art's beloved farm until his death. When Art wasn't in the hayfield or tending his cattle, he loved to Barbecue a hip of beef or a whole pig, play baseball, curl, dance, sing, hunt and fish. Art worked hard and he played hard. Art was a very proud man. He was proud of his family, his farm and proud to call Oak Lake home. Left to cherish Art's memory are his wife of 26 years Arlene; sons Richard (Josie), Brent (Cathy Willard); daughter Brenda Meadows (Mark). Grandchildren: Dayna Cowan (Kelly), Kaylin Thiry, Nicole Thiry (Kyle Ray), Jordan Thiry (Chris Steeves), Randi Thiry, Matthew Meadows and Chelsey Meadows.
