BRAUN: Abram (Abe). It is with great sadness we announce the passing of husband, father, grandfather and community member Abe Braun of Erickson at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on November 12, 2009 at the age of 76 years. Abe was born May 8, 1933 on his Grandmother's farm in the Rhineland Municipality, the second child of Peter and Anna Braun. Abe married Hanna Cherpaw May 9, 1952 and together they raised five children. On March 20, 2000, Abe married Wilma Jacobson. Abe went to school at the Calder School in Rheinfeld until 1947 when the family moved to Mayfeld, Manitoba. Here Abe's work life began on the home farm and neighboring farms, then to the CN Railway. Abe spent 38 years with CN, from Sectionman at Plumas, Manitoba to Roadmaster, which included managing the road gangs of Western Canada. After retirement at 55, Abe found other jobs to keep him busy, building cupboards, working at Knox United, Heritage Co-op, delivering Free Press and just helping out. Abe made friends where ever he went. He was a community man, always willing to step forward to do his part, serving on many local boards and committees and enjoying all the people he met. Abe loved making music, spending time playing guitar and banjo with his brother Frank on the violin, in their early years. All throughout his life Abe was a doer. He was so practical, always finding a way to get things done the best way possible. He loved being outdoors teaching his children and grandchildren to skate, coaching hockey, boating, fishing, golfing, travelling and just being at the cabin at Thomas Lake. Abe is survived by his loving wife, Wilma, his children Brian (Debbie), Judith 'Judy' (Ken Busch), Audrey (Lance Halliday) and Gerald (Jerry) and daughter-in-law Cindy Mott.
