LERNOWICH: Stanley Lernowich (November 28, 1920 – November 21, 2009). Stanley passed away with his family at his side on November 21, 2009 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. He will be dearly missed by Nell, his wife of 63 years, his son Rick (Sheila), his daughter Sherill (Dana), grandchildren Adam (Stacy), Paula (Rob), Dylan, Mathew and great-grandchildren Lindsay, Ashla and Kingston. He is survived by his sister Della of Fort Francis, Ontario and brother Cecil of Red Deer, Alberta. Stanley was born in Brandon and grew up in Brandon’s North End. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1940, and became a rifleman with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles (‘Lil Black Devils) with whom he fought during the 2nd World War, including landing in Normandy on D-Day. After returning to Brandon, Stanley began work at the Brandon General Hospital as a Cook’s Helper. He worked his way up to Chief Cook and worked there until he retired in 1981. In his retirement, Stanley enjoyed fishing, gardening, travelling and fun gatherings with his family and friends. The family wishes to extend their thanks to the nurses and staff of Palliative Care at the BRHC for their support and care. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church, 327-4th Street, on Thursday, November 26, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Dominic Yuen as Celebrant. Interment will follow at the Brandon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you consider donations on Stanley’s behalf to the Brandon Humane Society, 2200-17th Street East, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 7M6.
