DIXON: It is with deep sorrow, we mourn the passing of our beloved sister, sister-in-law, Aunt and friend, Fay Alexandra Dixon at Fairview Personal Care Home. She succumbed peacefully to the final stage of Parkinson’s on November 23, 2009 with members of her family and Fairview staff at her bedside. Fay was in her 78th year, having been born on January 28, 1931 at Oak Lake, Manitoba. She was predeceased by her father, Truman Dixon in 1979 and her mother Thelma (nee Olive) in 1991. Surviving are her brother, Doug Dixon (Deane) of Brandon, nephew Trevor (his children Ryan, Brandon, Matthew, Mark and their mother Rose) of Burlington, Ontario. Nieces, Diane (Laurie Andrew) of Hamilton, Ontario and Sandra (her children Kyle, Bronte and Bryce) of Burlington, Ontario, also her sister-in-law, Jill Dixon of Burlington, Ontario. Fay excelled at school, taking grades one and two at Oak Lake and after the family moved to Brandon in 1939 she took her grades three and four at King George. In 1942 the family moved to Nesbitt, Manitoba where she completed with honours her grades five to 11. She finished high school at St. Michael’s Academy in Brandon in 1949 and then went on to Normal School in Winnipeg where she attained her Teacher’s Degree in 1950. She began her teaching career at Centreville Country School near Holland, Manitoba and taught there for two years. She then transferred to Cypress River and taught there for three years. In the fall of 1955 she decided that teaching was not her forte and began a new career with MTS at Glenboro, as a telephone operator. She became Chief Operator while there; however in1963 she decided to transfer to Brandon to be with her parents. In Brandon she worked through the ranks with MTS and became Assistant Manager of Operating Services prior to her retirement in 1986. While there she gained many lifetime friends. Prior to and after retirement, Fay upgraded her skills with Toastmistress training, typing skills, ITC correspondence training and Wheat City College Business courses. Fay enjoyed travelling with family and friends, making extensive trips throughout Canada and the USA. She made a trip to the United Kingdom, Hawaii and a cruise through the Panama Canal. There were also the yearly trips to Saskatchewan and Ontario to visit family for the holidays. Fay was a very benevolent person; never forgetting her family and friends on holidays or birthdays; always sending cards and gifts. She provided support and assistance to her aging parents, grandmother and uncles during their last years. Fay donated yearly to many different charities and volunteered with the YMCA, the Thrift Store and the East End Community Centre. Fay’s loving and generous nature will be cherished and memories of her will never be forgotten by her family. We would like to thank the staff on the 4th floor of Fairview Home for the excellent care they provided and the love they bestowed on her. She had many happy days there. Cremation has taken place and the Service of Remembrance will be held at Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Monday, November 30th, 2009 at 11:00 am with Rev. David Cathcart of Knox United Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Brandon Cemetery and a reception will be held at Brockie Donovan after the interment. In lieu of flowers, donations in Fay’s memory can be made to the Parkinson Society of Manitoba, 7 - 414 Westmount Dr., Winnipeg, Manitoba, R2J 1P2, or to the Fairview Home Trust, 1351 - 13th St., Brandon Manitoba, R7A 4S6.
