LEFORTE: Allan Andrew, December 18, 1949 - November 25, 2009. Al passed away suddenly at his home in Rivers in the early morning of November 25, 2009, at the age of 59 years. Al was predeceased by his parents Alice and Theodore (Bun) Leforte of Deloraine, his father-in-law Jack Holden of Napinka, his nephews Tim Leforte, Dwayne Kinsley, and Darryl Kinsley. He is survived by his wife Jackie, sons Jeff (Jacqueline), Colin (Faye), his grandchildren Madison, and Kelton, and mother-in-law Georgina Holden. Al is survived and left to mourn by his siblings Jerry (Elaine), Ken (Jackie), Ron, Dolores, Lorna (Vern); also by Jackie's siblings Brian (Penny), Mary Ann (Mike), Leonard (Glenda), Susan (Wayne), Rick (Kathy), Theresa (Rick), and their families. Al was born in Deloraine on December 18, 1949 to Alice and Theodore (Bun) Leforte. He started his education at Bayview School not far from where he lived on the farm, and continued his education in Deloraine. He attended ACC in Brandon, where he received his Certificate of Qualification as a Motor Vehicle Mechanic on December 13th, 1976. With a love for mechanics, at the age of 15, he started working in Deloraine at a local garage. After a few years he moved to Brandon and worked at the Brandon Mental Hospital in the Pasteurizing Department, and after it closed, he worked on the wards. Al married Jackie on February 21, 1970 in Napinka, Manitoba and lived in Brandon for the next couple of years. Al and Jackie moved to Calgary, Alberta in the fall of 1971 where he started an apprenticeship in heavy- duty mechanics with the city of Calgary. In the spring of 1972, their first son, Jeff, was born in Calgary, Alberta. Their small family moved back to Manitoba in the fall 1973. Al continued his apprenticeship at a vehicle dealership in Boissevain, Manitoba. In the spring of 1976, Jackie gave birth to their second son, Colin, in Boissevain, Manitoba. While living in Boissevain, Al was very active in the Kinsmen Club, was a volunteer fire fighter, played soft ball, was active in the stock car club and participated with his children in the many sports they were active in. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and spent many hours with his sons fishing. Al took a break from mechanics, he drove truck, and worked at other related jobs, but eventually went back to work doing what he loved, being a mechanic. Throughout his career in Brandon he worked as a mechanic at a number of businesses. He was still actively working at Hertz Equipment Rentals when he passed. A celebration of Al’s life was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Barry Schoonbaert officiating. A private family interment took place later at the Napkina Cemetery.
