TURNER: Bertha May Turner, April 9, 1919 - December 24, 2009. It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Bertha Turner (Williams) nee Swanson on December 24, 2009 at her residence, Hillcrest Place, Brandon, Manitoba. Bertha was born Bertha May Swanson April 9th, 1919 at section 33-2-21 in the R.M. of Morton. She grew up with 11 other brothers and sisters and was predeceased by two baby boys who died at birth and all of her siblings. Bertha met James Albert Williams and they were married in Winnipeg after WWII on August 25, 1945. They had two children, Gerald (Elsie) and Lois (Dave Coish). They farmed in the Deloraine district until moving to Deloraine in retirement. Jim passed away February 25, 1975. After spending a few years in Deloraine taking in two very excellent teachers as boarders (Marie Gross and Dale McKinnon), Bertha moved to Brandon to be closer to family and worked for some years in C.S.R. at the Brandon General Hospital. Bertha met Arthur Turner and they were married July 21, 1984 and resided on the Turner farm in the Lauder district where she met many new friends to this day. When Arthur passed away May 25, 1996 Bertha moved back to Brandon where she resided until her passing. Bertha came from a musical family and loved to dance. She also took up piano lessons later in life with Dorothy Whetter. She was a life member of the Deloraine Legion Ladies Auxiliary and was active until moving to Brandon. She loved to visit with family and friends and at these gatherings a spirited game of cards would breakout. She also found time to knit as all of her family can attest to with the afghans, sweaters, etc. that she knitted. Left to mourn are her son Gerald (Elsie), children, daughter Shawn (Daryl) Dorchak, sons Andrew and Parker, son Derek (Tannis), son Cole and daughter Madison. Daughter Lois (Dave) Coish. Arthur Turners family, Bruce and June Timms, children Paula (Derek) Theissen, McKenna, Rylan and Carter; Marcia (Dean Fletcher), Trisha (Mark) Skelton, Blake, Brooklyn and Blair. Margaret and Stephen Aker; George and Kim Turner, Jillian, Cole and Jessica; brother-in-law Howard Turner; sister- in-law Jean Wood; sister-in-law Irene Swanson; brother-in-law Howard (June) Williams; Roy (Eileen) Williams; sister- in-law Gladys Williams, plus numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extended their utmost thanks for the excellent care and compassion Bertha received at Hillcrest Place for the time that she was a resident there. A ceremony to celebrate Berthas life was held at the Deloraine United Church January 5, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Jeri Bjoranson officiating. Interment at Deloraine Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bertha may be made to Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 1-613-10th Street, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 4G6 or Deloraine Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Deloraine, Manitoba, R0M 0M0.
