COUSINS: Douglas Kim. It is with great sadness that the family of Kim Cousins announces his sudden passing on December 25, 2009, at the Southeast Integrated Center in Moosomin, Saskatchewan. Kim was born in Elkhorn, Manitoba on April 29, 1954 to Douglas and Irene Cousins. He was the oldest of five children. Kim grew up on a farm west of Elkhorn. He attended Mossgiel School up to Grade five, when it closed and then graduated from Elkhorn School in 1972with a grade 12 education. After graduation Kim continued his education at the University of Manitoba where he received a Diploma in Agriculture in 1974. On April 24, 1976 Kim married Connie Rookesof Manson, Manitoba. Together they raised four children; Jennifer, Jeffery, Scott, and Stephanie. They lived on the farm together for 33 years and enjoyed grain farming and raising cattle until Kims passing. Farming was not really a job for Kim,it was truly what he loved to do. When farming got tough Kim joined the Manitoba Operators Engineers Union Local #987 and began to seek work off the farm in winters. He worked as a track hoe operator for many different companies over the years. This took him away from home often, but his heart was still in Elkhorn. Kim was a very outdoor kind of guy and so this led him to enjoy many outdoor activities; he loved to hunt and fish. There was always a story to go along with every trip. He also had an interest in ski-doing and curling in the winter and ball in the summer. Kims life revolved around his family. He loved to take the kids up north for the spring fishing trip and to hunt with the boys in the fall. Every spring and fall there was an annual trip to the creek for an old fashioned weinerroast. He loved spending time each of his children and working beside them on whatever project they were doing. In 2001 Kim and Connie were blessed with their first two grandchildren and Kims life took on a new focus. He spent every spare moment he had teaching them the country way of life. They spent many hours riding in tractors and combines with him, or feeding the cows with the bike. Kim always looked forward to harvest and the picnic meals in the field; thats when he got to let the kids play in the back of the grain truck or just lay in the straw. Kim was a loving son, a great husband, an extraordinary father, and a devoted grandfather. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his parents Doug and Irene; his wife Connie; his children Jennifer (Rob) Chant, Jeffery (Lorae); Scott (Jennifer); Stephanie (Steven) Malcolm; his precious grandchildren Sean and Sara Chant; Austin and Alexandra Cousins; Addison Cousins, Little Kim Malcolm. Funeral services were held on December 30, 2009 at Trinity United Church in Elkhorn, followed by Interment at Woodville Cemetery. Officiating Minister was Joan Rennie-Laing. Arrangements were entrusted to G. R. Carscadden Funeral Chapel.Love lives on forever in the memories, in the stories, in the hearts of all whose lives have been touched by a very special person -- Kim Cousins!
