CURRAH - GARDINER: Freda Eleanor Currah Gardiner of Minnedosa, Manitoba passed away January 20, 2010 at the Minnedosa District Hospital at the age of 84 years. Freda was born in Saltcoats, Saskatchewan to Fred and Mary (Buckle) Forfar, the eldest of four children. She married Robert L. Currah on March 1, 1945. Together they farmed in Rama, Saskatchewan, Forrest, Manitoba, operated a store in Invermay, Saskatchewan and farmed in Basswood, Manitoba before retiring into Minnedosa in 1970. Fredas career included teaching in rural Saskatchewan at Boxmore and Archerwill and her passion for teaching continued throughout her life. After relocating to the Basswood area to farm, Freda devoted herself to the role of Farmers wife taking pride in being as self sufficient as possible on the farm. Later she became involved in the cooking competitions at the area fairs. Her family greatly enjoyed eating the competition submissions of cakes and pies. The many winters spent in Magic Valley, Texas, gave her wonderful memories. The wonderful friends met during these years were appreciated. November 15, 1997 Mom married Jack Gardiner who was a wonderful husband, friend and support person. His devotion and support of Mom is greatly appreciated by the family. Surviving are husband Jack Gardiner, three sons: Gordon (Sarah), Robert (Kathy), Wayne (Ingrid), and daughter Karen (Ken) Wersch, eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, step-children: Heather (Kevin) Atkey, Jacquelynn (Allen) Ripley, Robert (Karen) Gardiner, nine step-grandchildren, sister Muriel Enquist, and sister- in-law Ellen Forfar. She was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Mary (Buckle) Forfar, husband Robert (Lanty) Currah, brother Glen, sister Berle, and daughter-in-law Muriel. The funeral service was held on January 29, 2010 at Minnedosa Evangelical Covenant Church with Pastor Jeff Robinson, Hilltop Baptist Church, officiating. Interment followed in the Minnedosa Cemetery. Pallbearers were six of her grandchildren: Lyall Currah, Deanna Henderson, Rob Currah, Jan Currah, Ryan Wersch and Christina Wersch. All in attendance were considered Honorary Pallbearers. Donations may be made to Minnedosa Palliative Care or Heart and Stroke. Minnedosa Funeral Service in care of arrangements.
