McGORMAN: Stuart George McGorman passed away peacefully Sunday, February 7, 2010 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre after a very short but courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family. Stuart was born October 20, 1943 in New Hampton, one of the Districts of London, England. He was predeceased by his parents Evelyn (November 1989), Halton (February 1990) and sister Jeanette Story (January 2010). Stu will be deeply missed and his memory will forever be cherished by his wife Fran of Brandon; daughter Shelley (Todd), Justin, Kyle and Anesha Brown of Hamiota, son Peter (Laura), Trent, Evan and Amy of Brandon, son Steven (Lori), Bryson and Brayden of Brandon, son Curtis of Calgary; daughter Christine of Brandon. As well, he leaves many other family members and numerous friends. Stu arrived in Canada Valentine's Day 1945 when he and his mother braved the U-boats and crossed the Atlantic. Once arrived, Evelyn and Stu journeyed across to the West where they joined Halton in a rather rustic home in the Glenholm District, NE of Neepawa. He was schooled in Salsbury, Glenhom and Arden until badly breaking his leg at the age of 15 at which time he left school. Stu always had many stories to tell of his good old times spent on the farm, luxuries were scarce, so it was the simple things that meant the most. Once Stu left home he began work in Winnipeg at Eaton's, then with the horses at Assiniboia Downs, later became a grain buyer. He worked for Manco Dairies for some 27 years in Brandon, then numerous other short-term jobs while grain farming, dairy farming and most recently had a small cattle farm. He was happiest when outdoors and he took great pride in his home and yard. Stu always put his children first, no matter what, his family was his priority and they counted on him for help and advice. Stu was always teaching the children and grandchildren. He was once an avid camper, fisherman and hunter. He was always working on a project for the farm, building a new shed or just maintaining the park like yard. He was a meticulous man, never parted with anything, he built a guest house just to keep the things that held his treasured memories. The funeral service was held Sunday, February 14, 2010 at Memories Chapel with Rev. Joe Ball officiating. A private family interment followed at the Neepawa Cemetery. Honorary bearers were his eight grandchildren, with Justin Brown as urn bearer. Thank you for all you have given us, you will be in our hearts forever, we are sad to see you go, however no more suffering, no more pain. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330."When God made FarmersHe used a special formulaA touch of stubbornness, a dash of optimismAnd a whole lot of strength and courage,All carried home in the wings of determination."
