MORRISON: Norma was born June 30, 1920 to Kitty and John Grummett at Rivers, Manitoba. She had one sister Margaret and one brother Gerald. She received her schooling at Rivers Consolidated School and then went on to Business College. As a young person she was very active in sports, drama and music while growing up. She played in a dance orchestra for many years and sang in the church choir at Rivers United Church. Later she took a registered nursing coarse at Winnipeg General Hospital where she graduated with honors in 1947. She worked in Toronto and Brandon. Norma married Bert Morrison in 1949 and they farmed near Beresford for 47 years before moving to Souris in 1996. She raised four children Bruce, Donald, Craig and Sandra and had seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. After her family was old enough, she went back nursing at the Souris Hospital where she worked for 20 years, before retiring in 1984. This left her more time to pursue music, which she did by playing the keyboard with the Twilighters until December 2009. She was always to help out when needed and never complained. Norma spent many years accompanying her family on their musical instruments, and was so pleased when her grand-daughter took up the music challenge playing: flute, sax and piccolo. She also played for Beresford S.S. and at concerts there. Norma loved the farm life and worked hard looking after poultry, livestock, driving truck and hauling grain. It was hard work and there was no hoist on the truck in those days so the grain had to be shoveled off. Norma developed a hearing problem and found she couldn’t participate in a lot of extra curricular activities so poured her energy into looking after her family. It was no problem for her to get meals ready for a hungry gang of 15 or 20 and she was a super organizer for her family reunions or any type of get together. Norma was active at planning the Century Reunion at the family farm and everything went as planned. She was predeceased by her husband, Bert on January 2005, her parents, her sister Margaret on May 2007 and brother Gerald, May 1995; brothers-in-law; Os Carkner, Cam Johnson, Allan Bowles, John Irvine and Ray Morrison and sisters- in-law; Reita Bowles, Edna Johnson, Eve Morrison and Hilda Grummett. Giving thanks for her, she is survived by her children Bruce (Linda), Donald (Sylvia), Craig (Marilyn), Sandra (David) and her many grand children and great grandchildren. Funeral services where held on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at St. Paul’s United Church with interment at the Souris and Glenwood Cemetery. Well-done Norma. Rest in Peace in the eternal presence of God. Kowalchuk’s Funeral Home, Souris, in care of arrangements. Expression of sympathy may be made at dkowalchuk@mts.net
