FLEMING: It’s with great sadness and heavy hearts that we her family announce the passing of Phoebe Pearl Fleming (nee Curtis) on Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 at the Glenboro Health Centre. Phoebe was born February 7th, 1919 near Hilton, Manitoba. The family moved to the Tenterfield District south of Wawanesa where she attended Tenterfield School. After she finished schooling she worked at the Ninette Sanitorium and The Brandon General Hospital. On April 10th, 1945 she married Doug Fleming. Settling on their farm and working hard together they raised their four children. Leading by love and example, instilling strong family values created the legacy they leave behind today. After Doug’s passing in 1987 Phoebe continued to live on the farm for the remainder of her life. Phoebe was very outgoing and loved to visit and meet new people wherever she went. Throughout her life she enjoyed attending dances, traveling, gardening, curling, golfing and bingo. At the young age of 85 she decided to take up painting. Her family treasures her many wonderful canvasses. Family was always Phoebe’s focus and greatest sense of pride. Phoebe particularly enjoyed attending any activities that her children, grand children and great grand children were involved in. Phoebe was a remarkable woman finding joy in the moment, handling all of life’s challenges with grace and strength while always maintaining a positive attitude. Phoebe was predeceased by her husband Doug, grandsons Deryck Desrochers and Michael Fleming, brothers Fred, Harold and Rae Curtis and sisters Mary Barron and Joan Curtis. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by daughters Judy (Harold) Navid and Sharon (Firmin) Desrochers. Sons Allan (Debbie) Fleming and Don (Audrey) Fleming. Brother Jim Curtis and sister-in-law Jan Curtis and sister Ivy Bright. Grand-children Carla (Sheldon), Shawna and Amanda Navid, Tammy (Geoff) Murdoch, Tyler (Katherine) Fleming and Jill Fleming, Robbie (Kim) Fleming, Charlene (Brian) Allan and Jodi (Ted) Woods along with 11 great grandchildren. She will also be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services were held on Saturday March 27th, 2010 at the Wawanesa United Church. Rev. Carolyn Rushton officiated. For those so wishing, donations in memory of Phoebe may be made to Glenboro Palliative Care: Glenboro Health Centre, Box 310, Glenboro, Manitoba, R0K 0X0.
