PATTERSON: Annie Elizabeth Patterson (McNabb) formerly of Newdale passed away peacefully in the Hamiota hospital with family at her side on March 24th, 2010. Ann was born on March 5th, 1918. She was predeceased by her parents Jack and Rose McNabb in 1956 and 1984 respectively, husband Jim in 1987, grandson Bill Dixon in 2006, brother Bill in 2007, and brother Alex on March 10th, 2010. Left to cherish her memory are sons John (Betty) of Hamiota, Lorne (Carole) of Binscarth, Brian (Annette) of Edmonton, daughter Diane (Ed) Dixon of Chilliwack; grandchildren Cyril (Tara) of Shoal Lake, Derek (Kim) of Naicam, Saskatchewan, Tricia (Blake) Hunter of Shoal Lake, Martin (Deona) Horan of Bowsman, Manitoba, Debbie (Wade) Smith of Brandon, Cheryl (Wes) of Regina, Heather (Shawn) of Brandon, Michael (Jackie) of Calgary, Ryan (Meredith) of Vernon, B.C., Mark (Meaghan) of Edmonton, Leanne Larson of Chilliwack, B.C., 17 great grandchildren, sisters Margaret Ridgeway of Red Deer, Lil Farrend of Newdale, and Rosalind (Richard) Hayes of Thompson, brother-in law Bob (Helen) Lumsden of Neepawa, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. Ann was the first child of Jack and Rose McNabb. She grew up on the family farm the Grayston Place north of Newdale with three sisters and two brothers. Ann finished her schooling at Teulon and Winnipeg while helping care for family relatives. Upon her return to Newdale, she helped her parents on the farm, worked as a housekeeper for Roy Graham and then returned to Winnipeg to help care for family relatives. On March 22nd, 1944, Ann married Jim Patterson and they set up their family farm south of Newdale. There they raised their four children, three boys and one girl. Ann was very involved in her community and was willing to help whenever asked. She belonged to several organizations such as 4-H, W.I., Horticultural Society, United Church Women, church choir, Hospital Aid, and the ladies curling club. Ann also worked at the local post office on Saturdays for a number of years. In 1973 they retired off the farm to a house in Newdale, where Ann resided until she moved to Lilac Residence in Hamiota 3 1/2 years ago. Anns hobbies included gardening, knitting, quilting and needle work. Her winters were filled with knitting sweaters, socks and mitts for the grand children. In addition, over the years Ann made numerous quilts and afghans for the family and the grandchildren. Together with family and friends, Ann enjoyed traveling to various destinations in Alberta and British Columbia, a bus tour to Alaska and numerous trips to Branson, Missouri. Ann motored to the Maritimes twice with family members and enjoyed a trip to Disneyland after she was 70 years young. The funeral service was held at the Newdale United Church on March 31st, 2010 with Reverend Tim Crouch officiating. Internment was in the Newdale South Cemetery. Ann was carried to her final resting place by her beloved grandchildren. Arrangements were by Campbell Funeral Home of Hamiota. A time of fellowship and refreshments was held at the Newdale Community Hall. Donations in memory of Ann may be made to the Newdale United Church Memorial Fund or charity of choice.
