FERGUSON: (Stanley) Isabelle Jane passed away November 2, 2009 at age 92. Isabelle leaves to mourn her passing son Ron (Bev) Abbotsford, B.C., grandchildren Cathy (Ron) Stanbra and Jennifer (Phil) McEwan; daughter Carole (Phil) Hall Brandon, grandchildren Dave(Lisa) Hall, Trista (Mike) Godfrey and Rob (Joanne) Hall as well as seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sister Jean Ritch Victoria B.C. and brothers Clarence and Ken Stanley Brandon. Isabelle was predeceased by her husband Bob in June of 2009, her parents Frederick and Edith and siblings Luella, Harold, Gordon, Percy, Albert and Irene. Isabelle was born June 7, l9l7, the 6th of l0 children. Her childhood was spent in various farming districts, finally settling on the Roseland homestead (the Stanley Farm"), which remains in the family to this day. She was educated in the one room school, most often arriving on foot, but in winters by horse and sleigh. Isabelle and her siblings all worked helping to operate the dairy farm, which included delivering milk to Brandon. There was also baking, meal preparation and gardening for the large family. A favourite story was of an infamous batch of bread dough which refused to rise. With Mom due home from town at any moment, the kids decided the evidence should be buried. The heat of the sun did its trick and bread dough began rising from the earth. There was always time for fun with ball games and dances at the Stanley farm. Isabelle worked at housekeeping and hair dressing before meeting Bob. They married on Oct. 22, l938 and so began 70+ years of marriage. After the birth of Ron and Carole, they moved to 730 -l3th Street and this became home for many years. Numerous family members were welcomed for extended stays over the years. Isabelle was a career lady, working in sales at Waddells Children's Wear for a number of years, cashiering with IGA Stores, operating a corner store with brother Albert, and, later in life, selling real estate. An avid golfer, Isabelle and Bob shared many games in their prized electric golf cart. Isabelle also enjoyed l0 pin bowling, especially the competition of tournaments, as well as playing bingo. To finish her day she might quilt, bake biscuits or make her famous raison pie. A wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother, aunt, sister and friend, she has been dearly missed since her death. A celebration of her life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June l5th at the Wheat City Golf Course (formerly Rec. Centre) 3500 McDonald Avenue. Family are friends are welcome.
