Alice CHICKEN

CHICKEN: Alice Marjorie Chicken, nee Goodchild, born October 21, 1923, passed away June 21, 2010 in Brandon, following a brief illness, with family in attendance. Alice, born and raised in Winnipeg, was predeceased by her husband of 64 years Joseph Chicken, parents Hilda and Edward Goodchild, an infant brother, sister Dorothy, and son-in-law Phillip. Alice leaves three children, Ronald (Linda) of Calgary, Linda of Carberry, Carol (George) Downey of Carberry, grandchildren Gordon, Bryan, Allyson, Karyn, Sheryl-Rae, Shaun, Christopher, Shawn, Jason, great-grandchildren Sarah, Baylee, Jesse, Ty, Isabella, Keira, Cailie, Amber, Ethan, Jasmine, Riley. She also leaves a brother Ernie Goodchild and brother- in-law Jim Bird as well as many nieces and nephews. Marrying Joseph in 1943, Alice and Joe resided at a number of RCAF locations, and then took up residence in Winnipeg where her family was raised. Alice returned to the work force in the mid-50s, working for the Hudson's Bay Co. (Winnipeg) where she became the secretary of the display print shop until her retirement in 1975. Joe and Alice moved to Brandon in2003. Forever a cook, Alice took great pride in teaching culinary skills to her children and grandchildren, as well as assisting with the harvest meals. Those Christmas family gatherings continued to be memorable as well. A lover of cards, Alice spent untold hours of card playing with her grandchildren teaching them and kicking their butts. They all had many laughs along the way. A bowler, Alice enjoyed her thrice weekly bowling until a medical issue interfered. She also loved the sport of Bingo and took it very seriously teaching the grandchildren a few new words along the way. For many years, Joe and Alice enjoyed their time at the lake where they taught theirgrandchildren how to fish, along with the necessity of taking sodas and chocolate bars along for shore lunches (just in case). Alice loved spending time with her family treating each one of them with love and respect. Alice was thankful for all of her years and did not regret. She was ready to go see Joe whenever it was her time. Alice just asked for us all to be happy and to take care of each other. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, Unit 4B - 457 9th Street, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 1K2 or a charity of one's choice. At Alice's request, cremation has taken place and a private family interment was held at Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Winnipeg.Alice ChickenA great woman and a wonderful role model!My Bride; you are my rock and the love of my lifeYou stayed by my side until the day I died and now we will be together again.I have missed you!
