ARMSTRONG: Murray Lloyd Armstrong. It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Murray Lloyd Armstrong at the age of 82 in the Grace Hospital, Winnipeg on June 21, 2010. Murray is predeceased by his father (Lloyd), his mother (Mary) and his sister (Beth). Left to cherish Murray’s memory is his wife (Beryl), sister (Clair), daughter (Gail), son (Martin), grandchildren (Steven, Alison, Joshua and Zoe) ,nieces’ (Linda and Carolyn), nephew (Jim) and numerous cousins. Murray was born and raised, September 2, 1927, in a small rural town of Reston, Manitoba. In 1946, he attended “Wheat City Business College” in Brandon. His love for the automobile industry became apparent as he worked at his father’s garage “Reston Motors” for 10 years. Murray then worked in Neepawa as Parts Manager for seven years. He then moved to British Columbia for a year where he worked as a “Parts Salesman” and then to Yorkton, Saskatchewan as a “Parts Salesman” in 1964. He met Beryl that same year and found they had much in common including growing up in the same era as they were only 22 days apart from each other. As their friendship grew they discovered they had experience similar encounters and so understood one another. They were later married in 1965. They have two children Martin and Gail. In 1976, Murray moved his family to Brandon and accepted the position of Assistant Parts Manager for 13 years at Murray Chev Olds where he took early retirement in 1989. After taking early retirement, he worked extensively with his cousin (Jim Morris) on the “Armstrong” side of the family tree. He spent countless hours looking over books, newspapers and micro film in the Brandon Library. His endeavors also took him to countless cemeteries around the Brandon area. Murray also loved working outside, building things out of wood and passionately worked in the garden. He once said, ”that he could lose himself on his hands and knees working in ‘Mother Earth’, being alone with nature and God”. Murray also had a passion for finance. He was the secretary treasurer for numerous organizations including The Reston Hospital, Diocese of Brandon Cursillo Community and St. Mary’s Anglican Church. Murray also audited the books for The Daly House Museum and took many courses in tax auditing. Murray throughout his life had a deep conviction for Jesus Christ. He was a member of the United Church up until he got married. He then became an Anglican. He was also a vestry member in Yorkton and at St. Matthew’s Anglican Cathedral in Brandon. Murray also supported this wife as he learned to be a good listener throughout her ministry as an Anglican Priest. He always tried to be patient saying “patience is a virtue”. Murray took great comfort in Psalm #46 “BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD”. He knew that many a time he had to learn to wait on the Lord, and wait for HIS timing, not ours. The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to all the doctors and nurses that have helped Murray in many capacities over the years. Cremation has taken place and a funeral service was held at St. Matthew’s Anglican Cathedral on June 25, 2010. The Right Reverend Jim Njegovan officiated and Reverend John Dolloff assisted. Ashes were placed within the St. Matthew’s Anglican Columbarium. Donations may be made to Parkinson Society of Manitoba, 302-171 Donald Street, R3C 1M4. “Good Luck Charlie”Neil Bardal Inc.
