MELNYK: Tim. On Saturday, July 24, 2010 we lost our Dad to cancer. He was always a hard working man who fought hard to be successful in anything he felt strongly about. Dad's brave fight with his disease netted him five extra years of life and was his greatest battle. Tim was born September 10, 1926 in Montmartre, Saskatchewan. He moved to Brandon at the age of ten with his family. In 1948, he married his best friend Alice and they celebrated their 61st Wedding Anniversary in October, 2009. In 1946, Tim (along with Alice) had a dream. Together they started Tim's Transfer Ltd. and "moved" Brandon for 48 years until retirement in 1994. Tim was quite sports minded. The highlight for him was being the GM of the Tim's Transfer MAHA Junior B Hockey Team that won the provincial championship in 1970. Dad enjoyed water skiing at Sandy Lake well into his 70's where the family cabin was a source of fun and peace for him. He taught his two daughters to ski at very young ages so double skiing and tricks could be performed. After retirement, Dad took up the sport of golf and loved time spent playing rounds with his friends. Dad was very involved in his church life at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church as well. He sang in the choir, served in the Men's Club, worked bingos, was on the Festival committee for the Ukrainian Pavilion and served on the church hall committee. Tim was predeceased by his wife Alice just last December. He leaves behind to mourn his loss two daughters: Terri (Ken) Turner and Lori (Randy Dutchyshen) Melnyk. Four grandchildren: Carla (Steve Merko), Julie and Kent Turner and Jordan Melnyk. He is also survived by sisters: Daisy Deneka and Vicki Popescul and an aunt: Irene Stopanski. Sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Amy Rollins, Elna Smith, May (Tony) Culbertson-Vaz, Ernie (Therese) Fowell, and Marg Fowell as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. We wish to extend a special thank you to Dr. du Plooy as well as the staff and volunteers of Brandon CancerCare, the Palliative staff of the Assiniboine Hospital, Dr. De Wet, the staff of We Care and Dad's personal caregiver and friend, Uncle Tony. All of you were instrumental in not only encouraging him to keep fighting but also in makinghis last few months easier to bear. Prayers will be said Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at Memories Chapel. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 927 Assiniboine Avenue on Thursday, July 29, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Celebrant will be Fr. Michael Tkachuk.
