DUCKER: Elsie. On Wednesday, August 25th, 2010, Elsie Black-Ducker passed away at the Weyburn General Hospital at the age of 89 years. Elsie was predeceased by her mother and father, Olive and Arthur Martin; her first husband, Stanley Black and her second husband, Cliff Ducker; a brother, Bert Martin; a half brother, Arthur Blacknell and half sister, Olive Edwards; brother-in-law, Howard Edwards and a nephew, Robert Edwards. She will be lovingly remembered by her family, three children: Sandra (Fred) Howells of Weyburn, SK; Kenneth (Linda) Black of Rapid City, MB and Allan (Barbara) Black of Wainwright, AB; ten grandchildren: Ross Parker, Darryl Howells, Sherry (Darren) Neill, Corinne Howells, Dave (Yvette) Howells, Bryce (Kelli) Howells, Christine Black (Brett Cooper), Mike Black, Kimberley (Chris) Watts and Brenda (Ricky) Fayant and 22 great grandchildren; nieces, Valarie (Don) Campbell, Sharon Morgan and Myrna Martin and sister-in-law, Rosemary (Alfred) Martin as well as numerous relatives and friends. Elsie Ducker, formerly Elsie Black (nee: Martin) was born November 8, 1920 at Birsay, SK. The family moved to the Eston District in 1930. She attended a one room school at Centerfield School until grade eight. He father and mother farmed and raised four children through the Depression. Elsie remembered gathering cow chips to burn for heat, milking the cows and riding a horse to school. On October 23, 1939, Elsie married Albert Stanley Black in Madison, SK. Stanley passed away in 1975. She married Clifford Ducker on May 26, 1979 in Weyburn, SK and Cliff passed away in 1988. Elsie worked through a Government program as a housekeeper/nanny for several different families, one being the McMannis family of Madison. She went on to first housekeep for Stanley Black, then to wed him. They started out farming, then moved to Madison to manage the post office. She enjoyed curling, swimming, dancing, playing cards and scrabble. She wrote poems, stories and songs. Elsie loved music and sang in the United Church choirs when she lived in Madison, Outlook and Brandon. She was a lifetime member of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and enjoyed community involvement by helping at teas and parties celebrating anniversaries and birthdays, etc. as well as by putting on plays and skits. She fed everyone that came to her home, making Sunday morning multigrain pancakes before multigrain was known to be important for your health. Elsie loved to travel and took many trips. Holidays were special times for the family when her parents, sister and brothers and all the family got together, especially Christmas when she made the Christmas pudding with her special sauce. She lived in the Madison district until 1980, then moved to Outlook where she lived until moving to Brandon in 1989. In 2008, Elsie moved to Weyburn to be near her family. She resided at Tatagwa View Long Term Care Facility at the time of her passing. Elsie was very much a people person. She was never afraid to move and when she did, she made friends who stayed her friends forever. Elsie never wore dentures and still had red in her hair at 89 years of age. Her family, friends and neighbors were paramount and they will all miss her dearly. A Memorial Service was held Saturday, August 28th, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. from Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, SK, with Rev. M. Barnabas officiating. All those in attendance were considered to be Honorary Pallbearers. Interment followed on Monday, August 30th, 2010 in Madison Cemetery, R.M. of Newcombe, SK.
