DAVIS: Edwin Ross Davis 1931-2010. Ed Davis passed away peacefully on Sept. 19, 2010. Edwin (Ed) was born in Matsqui, B.C. on March 22, 1931. Educated in New Westminister, and Vancouver, B.C. Ed later attended Calgary Tech where he took his plumbing and gas fitting trade. Ed was a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force, and later worked at other jobs in Flin Flon, Manitoba, and Grande Prairie, Alberta. In 1956, Ed met and married Elsie Dowhan, of Flin Flon, Manitoba who was teaching in Grande Prairie, Alberta. Five years later, they returned to Manitoba where Ed was hired by Inco (Vale). Ed was a Maintenance Foreman and Planner, and continued to work, and raise a family in Thompson until his retirement in 1991, when he and Elsie moved to Brandon Manitoba. During his lifetime, Ed strongly believed in community service and belonged to numerous organizations as Kinsmen, Masons, Shriners, Kiwanis. Ed loved sports especially golf, curling, basketball and baseball. He excelled at these sports and was an avid player with the Grande Prairie Athletics, Thompson Golf Club, Burntwood Curling Club, Glen Lea Golf Club, Wheat City Golf Club, and the Brandon Curling Club. While curling in Brandon, Ed's Masters Team won the Masters Curling Championship for Manitoba in 1994 and 1995. Ed was an all-around athlete. He is honored in the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame as a team member of the Thompson Reds. Ed is survived by his wife Elsie, daughter Kim Fraser (Rick), sons, Kelly Davis (Debbie) Lance Davis (Sherry) and Lee Davis (Karen), grandchildren, Richard Fraser (Marla), Matthew Fraser (Nicole]), Lyndsey Menard (Kris), Stephanie Davis (Al), Tyler Davis (Jenilee), Tennille Davis, Maddy Davis, Eric, Jack, and Brett Davis, also great grandchildren, Taylor and Georgia Fraser, Nieces, Nicole (Michael), and Jaime (partner). Other survivors include his brother Dennis Davis, sisters-in-law Marie Davis, Janet Beattie (Murray), Bernice Sapach (Vic), and brothers-in-law, Marve Dowhan (Del) and Bill Dowhan, also numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Ed was predeceased by his father, Oswald Davis, his mother, Louise, his step-mother, Winnie, sister, Carol, brother, Gordon, also his niece Karla Dowhan, and nephew Ricky Dowhan. He will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 24th, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, 327 4th Street, Brandon, Manitoba. If so wished, donations may be made to the Brandon Regional Hospital, Cancer Care Program.
