LAWRENCE: The death of James Jefferson Lawrence, former owner of the Silver Dollar Barber Shop and Beauty Salon, 1501 - 7th Street, occurred in Brandon on September 24, 2010. James was born in the R.M. of Strathclair, Manitoba and grew up on the family farms in Elphinstone and Strathclair. He attended the Lake Audy School. James joined the army as a Gunner with PPCLI. He also worked underground at the Amaranth Gypsum Mine for eleven years, operated a cattle farm in the Glen Hope district of Manitoba and worked in building construction in McCreary, Manitoba. Jim then went to Barber School in Winnipeg before opening the Silver Dollar where he worked until he retired. He was a member of the Legion. In his early years, James was involved with Trinity United Church and in recent years belonged to Grand Valley Community Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping, vegetable gardening, berry picking, reading and cribbage. He is survived by his daughter Barbara Fletcher, grandchildren Todd and Carla, four great grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Pauline; by brothers, John and George and sisters, Helen, Jean, Judy, Jessie and Vida. The Funeral Service will be held at Memories Chapel on Friday, October 1, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Bob Wiebe will officiate. Interment will follow in the Brandon Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be: Ron Lochhead and Leanne Lochhead. Active pallbearers will be: Clayton Lawrence, Todd Fletcher, GregPennycook, Cody Fletcher, Richard Malchuk and Mark Nowazek. Honor Guard will be members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #3. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Jim to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation for the CancerCare Project, 150 McTavish Avenue East Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 2B3.
