McLEOD: It is with great sadness that the family of Josephine Marie McLeod (nee Wegren) announces her passing on Friday, October 1, 2010. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Don in 2004. She leaves to mourn: son Don, his wife Brenda and their children Chris and Lindsay; daughter Lesley, her husband Allan Bens and their daughter Katrina; special in-laws George and Betty McLeod, and a large extended family. Jo was born November 7, 1917 on the family farm near Allan, SK to Joseph and Florence Wegren. She enjoyed a happy childhood with her brothers John, Rodney and Dale. In 1942 she joined the RCAF, rising to the rank of corporal and performing duties in the hangars and offices of the Air Force. These were her proudest years. In October 1945 she married Don, whom she met while they were both in the RCAF. Don was the centre of her world, and she supported him and his career every moment of their 58 years together. Through various moves between Saskatchewan and Manitoba she pursued homemaking zealously, making every new house a warm and welcoming environment. Her piano always moved with her, and Mom would play as often as she could. Needlework occupied her leisure moments all the days of her life; her hands were always busy. She created works of art that all the family now enjoy. In the early years, in her spare time, she bowled, golfed and curled. A very competitive person, she loved to play bridge and all kinds of other board and card games. In later years her gardens were her primary joy. She created so much beauty with her flowers in many different places. Even during her last years in retirement communities, her balcony and her rooms were bowers of potted plants. Jo undertook volunteer work, service club and church work over the years with spirit and energy. She was a long time member of the Presbyterian Church in Canada, St. Andrew's congregation in Saskatoon, and First Church in Brandon, Manitoba. Mom loved her family above all and was happiest when entertaining and feeding them. Whether it was close kin, extended family or dear friends, everyone could be assured of a warm welcome and a great meal when invited to visit Jo and Don. She will be sorely missed, but we rejoice knowing she is again with Dad. The Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday Oct. 6, 2010 at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church (corner of 20th St. E and Spadina Cres.) conducted by Rev. Amanda Currie. Condolences may be emailed to mail@saskatoonfuneralhome.com , arrangements are entrusted to the Saskatoon Funeral Home, 306- 244-5577.
