MANSON: The death of Mary Elizabeth Manson (nee Steel) occurred Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at Brandon Regional Health Centre. Mary was predecease by her husband Alexander (Sandy) Manson; her parents Andy and Minnie Steel; her brothers, Andrew, Wesley and Barry; and her brother-in-law Lloyd Burgess. She leaves to mourn her passing: Her children, Karen Colbourn, Hugh, Andrew, Arlene and Linda; her granddaughters Susie and Sarah Colbourn; and her sister Ellen Burgess. Mary was born on June 23, 1929 at Holland, Manitoba the eldest of five children of Andy and Minnie Steel. She was raised on the family farm. Her world was altered with the death of her mother in December of 1943. She stayed at home and helped on the farm. Later she moved to Winnipeg where she lived and worked for several years. During her time in Winnipeg, she worked at St. Johns Ravenscourt School for Boys for a few years in the kitchen. In 1958, she moved to Brandon to be with her husband Sandy. Together they had five children: Karen, Hugh, Andrew, Arlene and Linda before Sandys passing in May of 1971. Life for Mary was not always comfortable because she dealt with mental illness issues in a world which is still learning to access solutions. Family considers the last five years of her life to have been the most comfortable and joyful in the security of Rideau Park Personal Care Home where she was given dignity and stability. The family appreciates so very much this happy contentment their care provided for her. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Mary can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association B-727-10th Street, Brandon, Manitoba. A memorial service will be held in the spring, when family can be together.
