HARLAND: Henriette Marie Harland (Lagasse) (nee Mondor). It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother on September 25, 2010 at Bayside Personal Care Home, Killarney, MB. She passed away peacefully in her sleep after a battle with Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and complications after suffering a fall last August. She is survived by two daughters, Marilyn of Lethbridge, and Lori (Dan) of Killarney; daughter-in-law Hazel (Norman) of Killarney; grandchildren Rick (Liz), Tammy (Colin), Terry (Sherrill), Melissa (Brent), Robert (Kathy); great-grandchildren Leah, Torie, Aydan, Ty and Jaydan. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Evelyn Mondor and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband Noel Lagasse on June 17, 1993; their son Wayne October 18, 1964, their second son Norman July 20, 1973, and a third son who died at birth; her parents Joseph and Clara Mondor, eight brothers and four sisters. Mom was born in the R.M. of Strathcona (near Ninette, MB) on January 27, 1923. Her family moved to Dunrea where Mom spent most of her school years, after that she worked at a boarding house in Margaret before becoming a farm wife. She married Dad on October 17, 1944. Mom worked very hard on the farm in the Long River School District raising her family, a large garden, poultry and doing whatever else came along with farm living. She belonged to the Lyons River Community Club for many, many years. She joined the other ladies in quilting bees, bingo nights and other fundraising activities. Because of her children’s interest in various 4-H Clubs, Mom taught some of the sewing classes. After retiring from the farm she worked in the kitchen at the Killarney Hospital and shops in Brandon for a short time after moving there. Mom married Harry Harland on May 30, 1981. She was once again a farm wife until they retired to Minnedosa. Mom had also started to do oil painting and continued that hobby for many years. She always loved her gardens and flowers. Mom had spent many years doing volunteer work for the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Mom and Harry also spent many years wintering in Texas. As Mom’s disease progressed she had to move closer to family to get the special care she needed. She was very proud of her little family and we will all miss her but know that she will be in a happier place now. We would like to thank Dr. Pio, nurses, and staff at Bayside Personal Care Home for all the loving care given to our mother over the past few years. We would also like to thank everyone who sent flowers, cards, food and donations. In lieu of thank you cards, the family will be making a donation to the Bayside Personal Care Home. A private family memorial service was held in Brandon, MB on October 1, 2010. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
