ROBSON: Perry Stuart Robson of Brandon, formerly of Nesbitt, passed away November 1, 2010 in the company of his family at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. He was in his 89th year. Born August 25, 1922 on the family farm at Deleau, he received his education at the Deleau Consolidated School. Following high school, Perry worked on the farm from 1940-1956, during which time he also worked part-time for several years for the Day brothers. He then hauled gravel for Henry Atchison Construction until the fall of 1962 when he took over the family farm. Perry married Mona (Hardy) in 1961 and they started their family in the next few years, living on the farm and running it until 1977. During his early work years, Perry also drove a school van at Deleau and a school bus to Hartney, made ice at Deleau and Hartney rinks, and spent a short time working on the oil rigs. In 1977, he started cross-country trucking with his nephew, Peter Wurster. Buying his own truck the following year, Perry hauled for Arnold Bros. until 1979, when he sold his truck and took a position hauling machinery for Mazer Implements of Brandon until he retired in 1986, moving with his family from the farm to an acreage near Nesbitt in 1982. Three years into retirement, Perry was invited back into the workforce when he was asked to pump gas at the Log Cabin, and he continued to work until he had his first heart attack in May 1992. This past summer, he and Mona relocated to Brandon. Perry always loved sports, curling for many years as well as playing baseball and fastball, and he was a life-long Yankees fan. He was a quiet, humble man who loved his family, receiving much enjoyment from his grandchildren in his later years. Perry is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mona, his children, Craig (Dawn) Robson, Carolyn (Clay) Cory, and Lisa Robson, his grandchildren, Amanda and Kyle Robson and Sarah, Seth, and Nathan Cory, and his sister, Phyllis (Dennis) Busted and her two daughters, Janice and Marsha and families. He was predeceased by his parents, Earle and Irene Robson. A private graveside service was held November 6, 2010 at Minnewawa Cemetery. The family requests that anyone wishing to honour Perry with a remembrance send a memorial donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 3 - 824 18th Street, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 5B7 or the Kidney Foundation, 42 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 2B2. The family also extends its thanks to the caring and generous staff on A3 at the Assiniboine Centre, where Perry spent his last few days. Expressions of sympathy may be made atwww.memorieschapel.com. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
