HARTLEN: Ronald George Hartlen of Brandon passed away suddenly in Brandon on Friday, November 19, 2010. Ron was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on February 15, 1932 to George and Mabel Hartlen. In 1951, following his education at Sir John Thompson School, he enlisted in the Canadian Army in Halifax as a gunner and was stationed to Shilo, Manitoba, where he took paratroopers training. He remained with the Canadian Army until 1954, thenbegan work with Canadian Pacific Transport until his retirement in 1991. Ron met his future wife (Tillie) Vera LeHocky in Brandon and they were married in Halifax, Nova Scotia in September of 1969. Ron enjoyed hunting and fishing and played on a fast ball team with a Brandon club for a number of years. He was a past member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He especially enjoyed the weekends and summers at his son's home in the Onanole/Clear Lake area of Manitoba. Ron was a devoted husband and father and his family were always foremost in his thoughts and actions. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Tillie; son George (Valerie) of Onanole; daughter Rhonda of Brandon; step- daughter Carole (Allen) of Brandon; and step-son Ches of Ladysmith, British Columbia; step-grandson Monroe (Erin) and their children Joseph and Cheyenne of Creston, British Columbia; sister Barb (Stan) Gordon of Oromaeto, Nova Scotia; sister Edna Brown of Halifax, Nova Scotia; brother Bob (Cindy) Hartlen of Halifax, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father George Hartlen, mother Mable (Evans) Hartlen, and sisters Lillian, Aileen, Peggy and Shirley. A private family memorial will be held.
