BOWLES: Alvin Lloyd Bowles, March 7, 1920 - November 12, 2010. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a dear husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. After a terrible accident on November 4th, Dad succumbed to his injuries on November 12th. Dad was born in the Miniota district, on the family farm to Ernest and Isabella Bowles. He was the youngest of three boys. As a young man he worked on the CPR. He met the Wynona School teacher Margaret McBean and fell in love. They were married on February 8, 1947. Initially they moved a house to his parents farm and later moved to a farm east of Willen. A few years later he became the grain buyer at the Willen elevator. When the elevator closed, he commuted to Brandon, working for Frank Lawson and Sons. Later he drove a truck for Wilf Francis then purchased the Gibbs Garage from Wilf to operate under the name of L&M Service. It was 1961 when the family moved to Elkhorn. Dad also drove a school bus and continued to do so after selling the garage until retirement in 1985. Music and sports were very important in Dad’s life. He would play the fiddle, guitar or banjo and we had many fun-filled family jam sessions. He loved watching his children and grandchildren play hockey, baseball and curl and he loved shooting a game of pool. Gardening, feeding the birds and squirrels and spending time with his cat were enjoyable pastimes. He always felt better outdoors and we feel he was off to cut more wood at the farm when he was involved in an accident. He will be lovingly missed by his wife of 63 years, Margaret, their children Sharon (Allen) Pedlow, Ryan (Jonathan), Krista (Jon) Penner and Kinsley; son Gary; daughter Bev; son Delbert (Sally) Candace, Jason, Sherri, Shawn and Bradley; daughter Lorrie; son Rodney, Justin and Cody. He also leaves to mourn two sisters-in-law, Lily and Ethel. He was predeceased by his parents Ernest and Isabella, brothers Fred and Dennis and brothers-in-law Donald and Gordon McBean and nephew Doug McBean. The funeral service was held November 16, 2010 at Trinity United Church in Elkhorn with Rev. Lydia Glawson officiating. Pallbearers were grandsons Ryan Pedlow, Jason, Shawn and Bradley Bowles and great-nephews Jonathan and James McBean. Everyone in attendance were considered Honorary Pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, if friends wish, donations may be made to the Elkhorn and District Community Centre or charity of choice. Interment took place at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Carscaddens Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements., We love and miss you, Dad.
