JOHNSON: After a long fight with cancer Robert Montgomery Johnson succumbed on November 26, 2010. He was born January 2, 1931 and raised in Westville, Nova Scotia. While growing up in rural Nova Scotia he learned that he had a passion for hunting and fishing. Robert joined the Canadian Army in the late 1940's and fought with the Royal Canadian Artillery in the Korean War. His proudest military achievement was becoming a paratrooper. When stationed in CFB Shilo he met and married the love of his life Lillian Cizchiewiez from Brandon. Robert and Lillian loved to dance and spend time with their grandchildren in Clear Lake. He especially loved teaching his grandsons how to fish. After serving twenty five years in the Canadian Army he retired with the rank of Sergeant. He then joined the Unemployment Commission and Canada Manpower where he worked until 1990 when he retired. Robert was inducted into the Masons in the 1980's and was highly involved with his lodge. He always enjoyed organizing the St Patrick's Irish Night. Robert was also an active member of the Legion and the Koreans Veterans Association. Robert was predeceased by his wife Lillian and his daughter Gloria Ann Strieber and brother John Johnson. He is survived by his son Montgomery Johnson and his wife Anna, granddaughter Kathleen, daughter Roberta MacLeod and her husband Ken MacLeod, grandchildren Michael (Jody Wald), Tommy and his wife Reneille and Shantel MacLeod (Ron Mycholuk) and son-in-law Joachim Strebe, grandson Cory Strebe. Robert is also survived by his half brothers Willis, David and Greg Johnson. The funeral service will be held at Memories Chapel, 330 18th Street North, Brandon on Friday, December 3, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Jim Brown of St. George's Anglican Church will officiate. Interment will follow at the Brandon Cemetery. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Robert to the Brandon Humane Society, 2200 17th Street East, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 7M6.
