HADLAND: Heather Darlene Hadland passed away on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at the Assiniboine Centre with family and friends at her side. Darlene was born on November 19, 1941. She spent her early years at Douglas, Manitoba, moving to Brandon in 1955. After high school, she took training at BMHC as a Lab Technologist and X-Ray Technician. Darlenes work took her to various towns before settling in Portage la Prairie, where she met her soul mate, Gary Hadland. They were married in 1968 and relocated to Winnipeg. Darlene and Gary then went back to Portage, and finally settled down for good in Brandon. She worked at the Westman Lab until her retirement, on November 19, 2001. Darlene and Gary loved to travel and they spent many vacations traversing the globe, meeting new friends wherever they went. Also an avid camper, she spent as much time as possible in the great outdoors. Motorcycling was also a passion and, not to be outdone by Gary, Darlene had her own bike. She also enjoyed attending the ballet and opera performances with her friends. She cherished her beloved family pets, who will miss her so much. Darlene is survived by her loving husband, Gary; sister Shaunene (John) Bishop of Black Diamond, AB; brother Garry (Colleen) Miller of Brandon; mother-in-law Laura Strachan, of Kelowna, B.C.; sister-in-law Gail Goertzen, Gladstone; and many nieces and nephews. Darlene was predeceased by her parents, Jack and Mary Jenkins; her stepmother, Beth Jenkins; and sister and brother-in-law Ferne and Foster Boles. The family would like to thank her many dear friends who were always there for her and Gary. Their caring and generosity were unparalleled. Thanks, too, to Dr. du Plooy and the staff on A300 for kindness and compassion. A service will be held on May 12, 2011 at Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, with interment at the Shoal Lake Cemetery. At Darlenes request, please, no floral tributes. Memorial donations made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Room ON1160, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3E 0V9 or a charity of your choice would be deeply appreciated.Messages of condolence may be placed at www.brockiedonovan.com.
