HADDOW: Williamina "Billie" Haddow (nee Garrity) February 15, 1943 - December 9, 2010 of Brandon, Manitoba. After a short but courageous battle with illness, Billie passed away peacefully surrounded by family and in the hearts of many great friends. Billie was born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland and immigrated to Canada in October of 1970. She was one of four children born to the late William and Jane Dias Rutherford Garrity and was the beloved wife of Daniel Haddow for over 40 years. Billie will forever be remembered by her beloved children: Scott, Tracy (Mike) Woodland and Kim; treasured grandchildren Brittany and Dylan Woodland. Surviving in Scotland are her brother Jim (Christine) and sisters Anne and Jean; brother-in-law Robert of Calgary and sister-in-law Myra (George) also of Scotland, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and her Uncle John who will fondly remember her. Billie was proud of her heritage and loved listening to her Scottish music and participating in and supporting events that promoted her Scottish heritage. She enjoyed attending The Robert Burns Supper each year and most recently the Scottish Pavilion of the Winter Festival along with the many other events put on by the Westman Scottish Association. Billie touched the lives of many people with her gentle yet firm nature and generosity. She enjoyed a good time with friends, whether it was out with her coffee buddies or hosting the annual block Christmas party. She also enjoyed the many visits she made back to Scotland where she was able to catch up with old friends and visit with her family. Billie was very active in her community, volunteering for many organizations which provided even more friendships for her. A lot of her earlier volunteer work revolved around that of her kids, while later on she helped with numerous organizations, important to her, such as the Optimist Club of Brandon, Christmas Cheer or the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation. After 40 years of marriage, Mom and Dad were able to go on the honeymoon they never had as a result of Dad having to leave the day after they were married for Quebec as a result of the FLQ crisis taking place. They spent a wonderful week inVictoria B.C. taking in many amazing sights and cherishing their time together. Friends and family were invited to attend a memorial service to celebrate her life on Wednesday December 15, 2010 at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #3, 560 13th Street East, Brandon, Manitoba. The family extends its most sincere thanks to Doctor Benade along with Doctors Penner and Bookatz in the ICU, along with the nursing staff and the health care aides on the 400 floor and ICU at the Brandon Regional Health Centre, as well as the staff of A300 of the Assiniboine Centre for the care they all afforded our wife, mother, grandmother and friend over the past five weeks. Words alone cannot express the gratitude we feel for the care and compassion the staff showed Mom and our family during this time. Special thanks go to Joe Ball and Denise Woodland for the understanding and support they each provided us during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada, Brandon Chapter, Box 21047, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 3W8 or the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 2B7.
