FOWELL: Joy Marie Fowell (nee Joy Marie Kuehn Pollard), 80, died early on Sunday morning, December 5th, 2010 in Torrance, California. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Leonard R. Fowell; by her four children, Richard Fowell, Joy Elaine Fowell, Loree Fields, and Irene Marie Fowell; and, by her five grandchildren, Cheryl, Karen, Austin, Brandon, and Justin. She is also survived by her beloved older brother, Ray Irwin; her four nieces, Lori Orr, Joy Fodor, Janice Irwin, and Julie McAuley; and her two nephews, John and Michael Pollard. She was predeceased by her cherished older brother, Edward (Eddie) Pollard. Joy was born on September 23, 1930 in Vancouver, British Columbia to Emeline Joy Otto Pollard and Arthur Henry Pollard. She grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba and there she attended the University of Manitoba where she met her husband. During her childhood, she spent many happy times at her grandparents Friedrich and Marie Otto’s farm near Ashern, Manitoba. Her cousins located in the Ashern and Emerson areas were always very important to her. Following marriage, Joy and Leonard moved to Palos Verdes Estates, California in 1960, where Joy lived until near the end of her life. Joy’s focus was always on her family. She enjoyed receiving and writing letters, painting, sewing, gardening, and flowers. She was kind to animals and especially to the family pets. She shared her love of sewing by teaching sewing to groups of girl scouts and she shared her love of family by teaching the Sunday preschool at The Neighborhood Church in Palos Verdes. She took wonderful care of her family, and she will be missed always. To her relatives and friends: In the spring, please plant sweet peas in your gardens in her memory. She would have loved that - you all meant so much to her.“...knock and the door will be opened to you” – Matthew 7:7
