KINDRAT: Leonard Peter, August 20, 1931 - January 10, 2011. It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Len Kindrat at the age of 79 years. Len will be fondly remembered by his children Derek (Judy), Terry (Janice), Greg (Theresa), Kevin, Mark (Carol), Denise (Ed) Fardoe, Gary, David (Jennifer), eighteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Len was predeceased by his wife, Gwen, father Peter Kindrat, mother Katherine Kuzyk, stepfather Michael Kuzyk, brother John Kindrat and his wife Margaret, and mother and father-in-law, Dolly and Walter Green. Len was born in the city of Brandon and grew up in the North End. He attended David Livingston School. Len began working at a very young age, demonstrating a strong work ethic. His employment was centered in the automotive industry. He worked at Bill Beer (Chrysler dealer), Reliance Motors, Binkley Motors, and Northstar Oil. Len and his wife Gwen made the decision to venture into the Shell Petrol Station on 13th and Rosser Avenue, 18th and Rosser Avenue and at the same time managed another Shell station on the Trans-Canada Highway. During this time dad also ventured into Yamaha snow machines, Silverliner Campers and Utility trailers and Toro Yard and Garden products. This was the stepping stone to the creation of Len's AM Motors and Len's Autoworld. Len's business ventures led to close associations with his customers and suppliers, many of whom became his friends. Len married Elizabeth Green on December 10, 1949 and together they raised eight children. Len was a very community-minded man. In the early years of their marriage he spent many hours coaching hockey. He was also a hockey referee and traveled throughout rural Manitoba. He became a linesman in the WHL. Many will remember Len for his playing with the North End Midgets Hockey Team and a stint with Minnedosa Jets. Len was an avid bowler, spending many Thursday nights with his good friends. He was a member of the Lion's Club, and took special interest in the baseball diamonds and the paddling pools in the city. Len also served a term as a city Alderman. Spending time with family and friends was important to Len. Early family excursions were spent camping and traveling throughout western Canada, the U.S.A. and mum and dad's trips to England. Later, family vacations were spent at the cottage at Clear Lake. He enjoyed his yearly fishing trips to Crane River. Len loved to have everything in order from his shop to his yard and of course the shoes. The Funeral Service will be held at Memories Chapel on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. with Arlene Robertson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in the memory of Len may be made to a charity of one's choice.Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com.
