JOHNSTON:Robert Barry Johnston passed away peacefully on January 6, 2011 at the Westman Nursing Home in Virden with his wife Erva and all his children by his side. Barry was the youngest child of Jack and Eileen Johnston. He attended school at Johnston School and Oakwood School in Oak Lake. On July 25, 1947 Barry married Georgina Bray and together they had five children, Judy, Joan, Janice, John and Jerry. Barry and Georgina lived on the home farm 15-10-24 in the R.M. of Woodworth where Barry was involved in both grain and cattle farming. During this time he was involved in many community organizations such as the Oak Lake Agriculture Society and Manitoba Pool Elevators. Sadly, Georgina passed away on February 2, 1971. Barry remained on the farm until 1979 at which time he sold the farm and moved Elstow, Sask. to manage a branch of Specialized Soil Products. This was a huge move for Barry as he had farmed all his life. Barry and Erva Foreman were married on March 19, 1982 and in 1988 they returned to live on Oak Lake. Barry enjoyed curling, especially bonspieling, golfing, camping and had a passion for photography and for growing the perfect tomato. He was often found in his special spot at the arena watching any level of hockey. Barry was predeceased by his parents Jack and Eileen, his wife Georgina, mother in-law Florence Bray, fathers- in-law Earl Bray and Albert Foreman, brothers Norris and Ross, sister Lorraine (Holland) sisters in-law Bernice, Audrey, Phyllis and Gwen, brother sin-law Bill Holland and Harvey Kent and son-in-law Brent Doherty. He is survived by his wife Erva, daughters Judy (Wallace) McLean, Joan Doherty, Janice (Gord) Huminuk, sons John (Barbara), Jerry (Debbie), 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and mother- in- law Ethel Foreman. The funeral services was held on January 12, 2011 at Oak Lake United Church with Rev. Craig Miller officiating. Interment was at Johnston Cemetery with Carscadden Funeral Home in charge on arrangements. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society or Oak Lake Minor Hockey in memory of Barry.
