SHELDON: It is with great sadness that we the family of Pearl Sheldon announce her passing on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre at the age of 84. Pearl was born May 28, 1926 on the family farm at Hayfield, MB, southwest of Brandon, to William (Bill) and Bertha McRae (nee Kirkpatrick), the second oldest of six children. Pearl is survived by her children, Dianne (Sam) of Brantford, Ont.; Bill, Winnipeg;Bob (Pat) of Hamiota; stepchildren, David (Bev) of Morden, Manitoba; Jim of Vancouver, B.C.; Searle of Calgary, Alberta; and Shirley (Vic) of Nanaimo, B.C.; thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She is alsosurvived by a sister, Bernice Anderson of Swan River, Manitoba; sisters-in-law, Marge McRae of Brandon, Thelma Sheldon of Winnipeg, and brother-in-law Alan Sheldon of Winnipeg; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Jim Sheldon; parents, Bill and Bertha McRae; brothers, Gordon, Howard, Allan and Bobby; sisters-in-law, Margaret McRae, Marion Kozak, Vivian Sheldon, Isabelle Tully, Berna Lloyd; and brothers-in-law Doug Anderson, Harry Sheldon and Gordon Tully. Pearl received her education at South Brandon in a one room school and attended Brandon Collegiate for her high school. She worked as a waitress/cashier at the Prince Edward Hotel and the Bus Depot before moving to work as a clerk for the Provincial Government for twenty four years before retiring in 1984. Pearl was very active in the community belonging to the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #247 and Central United Church. She enjoyed many activities such as golfing, curling, square dancing, playing bridge, knitting, crocheting and sewing to name a few as well as travelling. Pearl resided all her life in Brandon except for a brief period in Whitewood, Saskatchewan. She had resided at Dinsdale Personal Care Home since suffering a debilitating stroke May 6, 2007. The family wishes to acknowledge the tender loving care from all the staff of Dinsdale Personal Care Home whom she regarded as her "Guardian Angels." Memorial Service for Pearl will be held at Central United Church on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. A private family interment will be held prior to the service at the Brandon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be in made in memory of Pearl to Dinsdale Personal Care Home, 510-6th Street, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 3N9, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, #3, 824-18th Street, Brandon, Manitoba or a charity of choice.
