WRIGHT:Glendon James Wright. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father Glen Wright on January 25, 2011 at Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Glen was born on December 6, 1928 at MacGregor, Manitoba to Albert and Nellie Wright, part of a family of five, with two brothers and two sisters. He was predeceased by his mother , father, and wife Vera, older brother Harold and older sister Anne. Glen is survived by his two sons James and John; brother Lorne and his wife Onalee (nee Kelly); sister Dorothy; grandson Chris; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend Ina Hyndman. Glen spent his early years on a farm near Lavenham and went to school at Clairmont School in North Norfolk Municipality. After leaving the farm in 1950, Glen went to Oshawa, Ontario where he worked at the General Motors Plant for about a year. Upon returning to Portage la Prairie in 1951 he met Vera Moffat and married in 1955 raising two sons in Portage la Prairie. Glen worked at Modern Dairies in Portage for several years when first married and then joined the United Grain Growers in 1968 as a grain buyer at Beaver Siding. Transferred to Portage la Prairie in 1974 for a few years and then was promoted to District Manager at the Killarney District. Another transfer to the Minnedosa District as District Manager and a purchase of a house in the town of Rivers, Manitoba where they retired in 1988 after twenty years with the grain company. Glen’s wife Vera passed away in 1993 at the age of sixty four, after thirty seven years of marriage. Glen was active in sports most of his life, with fishing, playing ball, curling and in later years the love of his sports life – golfing. He was a member of the United Commercial Travellers and a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, joining in Portage and transferred to R.C.L. #75 in Rivers in 1986. The funeral service for friends and family will be held in the Rivers United Church, Rivers, Manitoba on Monday, January 31, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. A private family interment will take place at the Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Portage la Prairie, Manitoba on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Pallbearers are Brian Wright, Barry Wright, Brent Wright, Chad Wright, Garry Wright, and Allan Hyndman. The members of the Royal Canadian Legion #75 are honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Glen’s memory to a charity of one’s choice if you so wish.
