BISHOP: In the last hours of January 27, 2011, George Bishop of Brandon, Manitoba, formerly of Erickson, Manitoba, succumbed to rest after a battle with cancer at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. George was born in Neepawa, Manitoba on May 26, 1932 to Nellie and Walter Bishop. They later moved to Kelwood, Manitoba. After a brief education, George went to work for numerous farmers and then the Good Roads at Riding Mountain, Manitoba. On March 12, 1955 George married the love of his life, Madeline (Birch). They were blessed with one daughter,Hazel, born February 16, 1956. George went to work at BA Texaco on Brandon North Hill for a couple of years. From there he worked at CCIL before moving to Erickson in 1967 finding employment with different garages. His final employment was at Riding Mountain National Park Compound as a Heavy Duty Mechanic; employed there until his retirement in 1992. George took a fancy to livestock where he built a herd of cattle for a few years. Due to health issues, George and Madeline moved to Brandon in 2006. Then a couple of years ago George bought a Miniature Horse Team (Buddy and Chip) with his daughter. He started driving them as a team and took them in a couple of parades, even winning the Best Agricultural Float in Rivers. He was so proud of his team. George and family were avid campers making a tour of Alaska in 2000 and many points in Manitoba. He was also a skunked fisherman as well as a hunter. George leaves to mourn his passing his soul mate and loving wife Madeline of 55 years; one daughter, Hazel (Vern) Moyer; grandsons, Jason and Justin (Pauline); granddaughter, Jodi (Darwin) Odowichuk; seven great-grandchildren; Daysha, Ian, Alannah, Cohen, Karson, Kohan and Kyrna. George leaves one sister, Kathleen and her family; sisters-in-law, Betty Birch, Margaret (Gordon) Pearce, and Judy (Jim) Menzies, and many special nieces and nephews. All children were special to George. George was predeceased by his parents Nellie and Walter Bishop; brothers Don and Frank; niece Linda; in-laws Sid and Etta Birch; and sister-in-law Phyllis. The Ceremony to Celebrate George's life was held at Memories Chapel, 330 - 18th Street North, Brandon on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Jim Brown officiated. Private family interment took place at the Brandon Cemetery.
