FALK: Margaret Falk was born November 4, 1935 at Lowe Farm, Manitoba to parents Cornelius and Margaretha Falk (nee Wiebe). She was the second youngest of ten children. Margaret grew up working on the family farm and, with much persuasion on her part, received her grade eight education. Marg moved to Caronport, Saskatchewan in 1955 to attend Briercrest Bible Institute. She worked in the kitchen and housekeeping while studying there and received her Diploma in the Standards Training & Christian Education Courses on April 16, 1961. It was during her first year at Briercrest that she heard God's calling to become a nurse. Marg attended Steinbach Bible College for oneyear and then returned to Caronport to work and take night classes to complete necessary education requirements for entrance into nurses training. She attended St. Boniface School for Practical Nurses in Winnipeg and received her L.P.N. Diploma on August 14, 1967. Following graduation, shenursed at St. Boniface Hospital for two years and Russell, Manitoba for one year before moving to Brandon in 1970. For 21 years Marg worked as a nurse on the maternity ward 200 at the Brandon General Hospital. There, she thoroughly enjoyed caring for the moms with their newborns. Her final five years as a nurse were served at the Assiniboine Centre with patients waiting placement. From newborns to seniors, Nurse Falk added a caring touch that will never be forgotten by her patients and the medical staff she worked with over the years. She retired from nursing in 1996 after 29 years, however never retired from caring for others. Marg's love for and dedication to God was evident in every part of her life. Her focus was always on a Sovereign God and rose above many circumstances as she kept her faith. She was diagnosed with breast cancer 25 years ago and since then has experienced many surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation treatments, as well as more cancer. Her doctor, Dr. du Plooy, became a very dear friend to her and did a fabulous job caring for her over the years along with the nursing staff in Brandon and Cancer Care doctors in Winnipeg. Marg enjoyed travelling, vacationing, and having lunch with her single girlfriends in past years. She became a very independent woman who loved life, especially when she retired and didn't have to set her alarm clock! Her life was rich with people she loved and serving God in many ways. Marg was an active member of the McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church and served in the nursery, Teddy Bear Clubs, ladies groups, as a greeter, and with her life group. She preferred to serve quietly in the background and was always encouraging those around her whether she was washing dishes, playing on the floor with children, praying for others, knitting baby blankets, baking or cooking favourite goodies for special people. All compliments she received were considered blessings. She would bake delicious treats for many thankful recipients especially for the youth group and Girls Dig Deep group in Minnedosa. Marg had a gentle way of making people feel special and enjoyed celebrating life! She was a person who lived with integrity and loved people unconditionally. It was the little things like sharing a cup of coffee and conversation with friends that meant so much. Her inside beauty enhanced her outside beauty and touched all of us deeply. With Kim holding her hand, Marg gently and peacefully left this earth to enter Heaven on Thursday, January 27, 2011. She was truly a valuable gem in our treasure box of life and will be lovingly remembered always. We will have a grand reunion in Heaven with her someday as she greets us with open arms. We will love you forever. Marg was predeceased by her parents; three brothers, Dick, Cornelius, and Jake; and several in-laws.
