CAMPBELL: It is with profound sadness that the family of Floyd Campbell announce his unexpected and sudden passing in his 83rd year, at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on January 28th, 2011, with loved ones by his side. Floyd was born at Rapid City, Manitoba on July 1st, 1928, the second son of Roy and Florrie Campbell. He took his schooling at Rapid City and Roseneath, Manitoba and at Port Kells, B.C. After finishing his schooling in Rapid City, he worked as a mechanic with his father and in 1950 he left for Alberta spending a few years there in various areas as a heavy equipment operator. Floyd returned home to be married to the love of his life Joyce Nielsen on December 5th, 1953. In the spring of 1954 they moved to the farm of Floyd's Great Uncle Alex (Sandy) Greig in the Moline area. It was here they were blessed with four children - three daughters - Carol, twins Vicki and Trudy, and one son Corey, who have brought great love and joy to them and of whom Floyd was extremely proud of. On this farm they remained doing what they loved best until 1995 when they retired from active farming, but remained on the home site until September of 2004 when they moved into Monterey Estates in Brandon where they were residing at the time of his death. Floyd exemplified many qualities - kindness, gentleness, love of family, strong moral values, and knowing the importance of lending a helping hand wherever needed. His first thoughts were always for his family, offering love, support and guidance, and was always very proud of their many activities and achievements. Floyd loved farming with a passion and all it entailed, from the growing of various grains to his special herd of Charolais cattle, which brought great joy to him, and for a few years a hog operation. One of his greatest joys in retirement until the end was his many drives throughout Manitoba, across Saskatchewan and Alberta to look at all the crops and cattle operations, no matter what season it was. Floyd loved nature in all its glory. He was known to many to be a real early riser, and always said that this was the greatest time of day. The air was fresh, gentle breezes blowing, the birds singing, and in all these he felt the peace and quiet of the early morning. Floyd always took time for the things he loved, and had many hobbies. In his early years he spent many happy hours with his horses, breaking and training them and enjoyed many hours of riding them. He also played baseball, hockey as a goalie, and later coached Corey's hockey team for several years. After this he took up curling and attended many bonspiels with his wife, friends and family throughout the surrounding areas. After moving to Brandon he joined the Riverview Senior Curling Club and played twice a week up until last December. Another favorite pastime was camping across the country with family and over the years made many new friends.. Golfing was probably his favorite summer activity with friends and more importantly his family, especially the grandchildren, whom even in his last year were still trying to beat Grandpa, but rarely succeeded. He also golfed once a week with the Monterey Golf Members since moving to Brandon. Floyd loved to travel, with the highlight of his life being an extended trip to the British Isles and Continental Europe in 2002. He was always an avid reader, whether it be historicals, mysteries or westerns, and was considered to be a well read man. He had one addiction which was regular trips to Tim Hortons for a good cup of coffee. Floyd was predeceased by his parents, parents- in-law, sister- Doreen Adamson of Vernon, BC, and a sister in law, Edna Campbell of Dawson Creek, BC. He leaves many cherished memories with his wife and soul-mate Joyce of 57 years. Daughters Carol (John) Alain of Minden, Ontario, Vicki (Roy) Forsyth of Eddystone, Manitoba, Trudy (Roy) Campbell/Baxter of Spruce Grove, Alberta, and son Corey of Bon Accord, Alberta. He was a beloved Grandfather of D.J. (Tanya), Curtis (Amanda), Brad, Tamara (Richard), Kyle (Kristan), Jason, Amanda, Jesse, Matthew and Shae. Beloved Great-Grandfather of Braden, Mikayla, Damian, Ryland, Tristan, Holden, Kylynn and Hailey. He will also be deeply missed by his sister, Roya (Andy) Andersen of Brandon, Manitoba and brother Keith Campbell of Dawson Creek, B.C., also brother in law Stan Nielsen of Rivers, Manitoba, numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews with whom he kept in close touch with. The celebration of Floyd's life was held at Minnedosa Funeral Chapel with Rev. Natasha Pearen officiating. A private family interment will take place at a later date in Rapid City Cemetery. Donations if desired can be made to The Canadian Diabetes Association, The Cancer Society or a charity of ones choice. "Forever In Our Hearts"Minnedosa Funeral Services were in charge of arrangements.
