PATERSON: Barbara Anne "Barb" Paterson of Forrest, Manitoba entered into eternal rest Friday, February 11, 2011 at the age of 66 years, after a courageous battle with cancer. Barb was born on January 6, 1945 in Deloraine, Manitoba, the eldest daughter of Adam and Lily Schwartz. She grew up on a mixed farm in the Turtle Mountain Area. She learned to cook at a young age, having the finest teacher, her mom. Barb attended Bayview Elementary School, and later Deloraine Collegiate. Always the compassionate caregiver, Barb chose a career in nursing and graduated with her degree in 1966. She met the love of her life, Harvey Paterson, and they were engaged on February 14, 1966, and married on July 29 of that same year. Barb started work at the Brandon General Hospital in 1966, and in 1978 she became one of the first nurses to work in the chemo unit, remaining there until she retired in 2001. Barb was very involved in her church and community. She taught Pioneer Clubs at the McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church, and attended the Forrest United Church Bible Study. She belonged to the Rugbyettes, the Brandon N.D.P. Women's Association, and the board of Manitoba Council Aging. Family and friends were of utmost importance to Barb, and she hosted many family gatherings, bringing people together in a tangible way. Barb was also an avid gardener, and derived much pleasure from working with the land and having it produce. Between family, friends, and gardening, she alsospent hours landscaping her yard and decorating her house. Music and cooking were her constant companions. Barb's life was well lived, and lived selflessly. She knew that people may not remember what you did, they may not remember what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel. Barb left an impact on lives that will not be forgotten. Barb was predeceased by her father Adam in 2009. She leaves to mourn her passing: herloving husband Harvey; son Rod (Lana) Paterson; daughter Wendy (Ron) Richardson and grandchildren Riley and Savannah.
