BARNES: On Wednesday, March 9th, 2011 at Brandon, Manitoba, Helen Barnes, in her 86th year, passed away. Predeceased by her beloved husbands, J. Stewart Gordon in 1974 and J. Kenneth Barnes CA in 1989, she is survived by sonsDavid and Scott Gordon, their wives Laura and Marie along with grandchildren Jeff Gordon, Kate Gordon-Da Costa, Dana Cote, and Michael Gordon as well as four stepsons Wayne, John, David, Peter and their families. Helen was born in Montreal, QC on October 27, 1925. She lived in Belmont for many years helping to run Stewart Motors then moved to Lynn Lake where she was employed at the Hudson's Bay Co and the Local Government District as assistant to the accountant. In 1966, she returned to Brandon to work at the School Division as secretary, and then for many years with the Workers Compensation Board as a Rehabilitation Officer in Brandon and Winnipeg. After retirement she lived in Winnipeg, Killarney, and finally Brandon, Manitoba. She had a keen interest in Drama and took part in many competitions as an actress in south west Manitoba, later becoming director of the Lynn Lake Drama Club. She enjoyed many wonderful years at Country Sunshine Resort in Weslaco, Texasand often recounted stories of the good times she had there. At the time of her passing, she was a member of the St George's Anglican Church. A memorial service will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th St North, Brandon on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Brandon Cemetery. The family would sincerely like to thank Dr. L. Moller, plus the doctors, nurses and staff at the Assiniboine Centre for the excellent careand attention afforded our mother.
