THOMSON: Hugh (Hooter) Leslie Thomson. Oct 21. 1946 - March 4, 2011. Hugh was born October 21, 1946 and was the second son of Andrew and Edith (nee Peart) Thomson of Cardale, Manitoba. Growing up his siblings called him "Hody". Hugh had all of his schooling in Cardale. He enjoyed sports in school, especially baseball. As an adult, he played on teams in Rivers then in Brandon playing with the City. Hugh helped on the family farm, helped his father and brother dig graves, worked in Minnedosa as a carpenter, on a section crew for the CNR line, then on a PMU farm in Carnduff, SK. In 1972, Hugh found his passion when he started working road construction for Don Crawford from Bradwardine. He ran a Cat and scraper, he was nick named the Cat Skinner and Hooter. From 1975 to 1982, he worked for Cordell Campbell of Griswold, building some of the roads in Blanshard and Cornwallis Municipalities. One winter he had plowed snow in Blanshard Municipality. In 1982, Hugh started working for Zenith Paving as a grader operator. In 1983, he started grading and snowplowing the Cornwallis Municipality. His employer would change (R. Warren Construction and Grading Ltd and Allen & Bolack Excavation Ltd) but he continued to do the roads in the Municipality until 2005. In 2005, he worked for Double "B" Enterprises, Kenton, working with heavy equipment; in 2006 Froese Bros., Rivers, running a Cat and scraper again. Due to health issues, Hooter was forced into retirement in 2007. Hugh had been a member of IOOF for a short time. Throughout his life, Hugh would always strive for knowledge and would buy a book on any subject. Hugh married Lori-Mariea Waldon on May 20th, 1978. They have three children (Hugh called them rug rats in winter and yard apes in summer). Amanda, Annette, and Steven. Hugh was an active community member. He flooded ice in Cardale and at the Green Acres Community Center in Brandon. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family and sometimes pulling a prank or two. Family who will continue to remember Hugh: wife Lori, children; Amanda, Annette, Steven, brothers; David, Alex, sisters; Sandra (Bob) Ake, Joan (Ed) Giesbrecht, sisters-in-law; Bev and Wanda Thomson, brothers- in-law; Fred, Ven (Deb) Waldon, sister-in-law Carol (Bob) Milne, nieces and nephews and their families, as well as many cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents Thomas and Kate Peart, and Andrew and Isabella Thomson, sister Linda 1953, mother Edith 1980, father Andrew 1987, brother Bill 2006, Uncle Art and Aunt Grace Flemmington and son Tom, Uncle Jim Mortimor, Uncle Evy and Aunt Jessie Peart, Aunt Mary and Uncle Alec Forbes. A Celebration of Hugh's life was held on March 12, 2011 at Memories Chapel. Interment will be in the Marney Cemetery at a later date.
