FIELD: The death of Winifred Ivy "Winnie" Field occurred at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Wednesday, March 16, 2011. Winnie was born on February 12, 1922 and grew up in London. She was the youngest and fifth child of William and Florence Harris. At the age of 19 Winnie joined the Army during which time she met Clifford Field, a private in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps. They were married on August 26, 1944 and Winnie was discharged December 23, 1944. Clifford returned to Canada and Winnie and their daughter Susan followed. They settled in Pelly, Saskatchewan. The family moved several times before coming to Brandon in 1956. Winnie worked as a nurse's aide, raised a family of four children and still found the time to volunteer. She received the Mayor's Volunteer Service Award in 1996 and the Premier's Volunteer Service Award in 1998. A play "The Light In Winnie's Window" was written for her by Tom Kneebone and Dinah Christie. Winnie was active with the Legion and the War Brides Association. Her children remember her as being the most positive you would ever meet. No cloud could cover up the blue in her sky for very long. She was a powerfully spiritual and loving mother. A low point in Winnie's life was the time when Clifford had to be placed in a home. The family will always remember the joy she had on her 89th birthday. "Mum was a source of love and happiness. God Bless Her Soul". Winnie is survived by John Thiessen; son Bill (Ruth); daughters: Susan (Don), Janet (Paul) and Lorraine. Also surviving are grandchildren: Barbara (Reg), Tracy (Tim), Adrian and Cael; great granddaughter Siohban. She was predeceased by husband Clifford, parents William and Florence, brother Bill and sisters: Irene, Lillian and Elsie. The Ceremony to Celebrate Winnie's Life was held at St. Mary's Anglican Church on Wednesday, March 23, 2011. Rev. John Dolloff officiated. Urn bearer was Paul Moase. Interment will take place in the Veteran's Section Brandon Cemetery on August 20, 2011 at 2:00 pm. Flowers gratefully declined.
