DOUGLAS: The death of Marion Myrta Douglas occurred at her residence Fairview Home on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at the age of 82 years. Marion wasborn April 18, 1928 at Oak River and grew up on the family farm at Oak River and later Griswold. Marion received her education at Oak River, Griswold and Oak Lake schools. She attended Normal School from 1947 to 1948 and later received her Bachelor of Teaching in 1973. She taught school for twenty eight and a half years. Marion married James Douglas on April 4, 1952 and they raised two children, Maureen and Perry. They farmed and Jim drove truck. Marion received her Class 1 learners license and drove truck with James whenever she was on school vacation until James sold his truck. Some of the happiest times were spent on family vacations, fishing and camping trips. They travelled from coast to coast in Canada and enjoyed trips to the Black Hills, Florida, Apache Junction and North to the Alaska Highway. Marion participated in sports such as softball, skating, curling and in her retirement years she liked to golf. Marion is survived by her husband James; daughter Maureen (Jack) Kolosky; son Perry; grandson Michael (Kristyn) Kolosky and great-grandchildren Hayley and Blake Kolosky. Marion was predeceased by her parents William and Laura McKenzie in 1968, brother Hubert in 1979, sisters-in-law Effie McKenzie, Hazel Pillar, Helen Erlenbeck and brothers-in-law John Douglas, Alfred Pillar and Fred Erlenbeck. The Funeral Ceremony will be held at Memories Chapel, 330- 18th Street North on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 2:00 pm. Pallbearers will be Douglas McKenzie, Neil Douglas, Brian Pillar, Ken Niivila, Don Carter and Darrell Steele. Interment will take place in the Brandon Cemetery. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Marion to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Office, B-727 10th Street, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 4G7.
