SMITH: Evelyn M. Smith (nee Earl). It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother and wife on March 28, 2011 at Hillcrest Place in Brandon at the age of 89. Evelyn was born in Justice, Manitoba on September 10, 1921. She attended school there and later in Carroll, Manitoba. For a time, she worked in Red Deer, Alberta for her Uncle Bud and Aunt Muriel in their jewelry store. During the war, she worked in Toronto with her friend Ruth. When she moved to Brandon, after the war, Evelyn enjoyed working at Continental Auto Supply and later for Dick Agencies. She married her husband, Howard, in 1951 and devoted herself full time to raising her family starting in 1954. In the 70's, after her family was raised, she went back to work, this time in the family business, Brunswick Billiards, where she really enjoyed time spent interacting with the customers. Evelyn volunteered with the Valley View Community Centre in the 60's and early 70's and was a long time member of the Brandon Lions Club Lionels. Evelyn is survived by her husband, Howard, son Dennis (Carolyn), son Bradley (Valerie), sister Edna Martin, brothers Elmer, Murray, and Morris, grandchildren, Jessica and Michael Smith. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents Harry and Margaret Earl (Johnston) of Justice. The family would like to thank the caring staff of Hillcrest Place for their support while Evelyn lived there. The FuneralCeremony will be held at Memories Chapel, 330 - 18th Street North on Monday, April 11, 2011 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Laird Russell-Yearwood will officiate. A private interment at Rosewood Memorial Gardens will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Evelyn may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba, Unit 4B - 457 9th Street, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 1K2.Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com.Arrangements are with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
