MERRY: Sidney (Sid) Edward Merry of Newdale passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at the Minnedosa Health Centre at the age of 78 years. Sid was born on January 7, 1933 in Cobourg, Ontario to Sidney M. and Edith (Cowin) Merry. He joined 1RCHA in 1951, served in Korea, returned to Canada, transferred to RCOC and posted to Shilo. There he met and married Eva Fiedler. Sid was active in the Royal Canadian Legion, belonging to Sandy Lake Branch #184. He served as Zone Commander and Deputy Zone Commander of RCL Zone #23. Sid is survived by his wife Eva; son Rick Merry (Pat Shebaylo) of Winnipeg and daughter Janice Merry of Bassano, Alberta; five grandchildren: Sidney F. (Anita), Andrew (Bethany), Dallas (Kevin Lajoie), Penny (Kevin Penston), Claire (Rick Banman) and seven great grandchildren: Sidney Patrick, and Isabelle Merry, Jessica and Brayden Lajoie, Logan Penston, Carlie and Deja Banman. Also surviving is brother: Robert (Marie) Merry of Port Hope, Ont., and brothers-in-law Donald Grant of Woodstock, N.B. and Bill (Lucie) Fiedler of Strathmore, AB., and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Sid was predeceased by his parents: mother Edith, 1951, stepmothers Ruth (Nunn) 1960; Alice, 2005; father Sidney, 1991; granddaughter Stefanie, 1996, sister, Margaret Grant, 2003, daughter Edith, 2007; his mother-in-law Ruby, 1982, and father-in-law Fred, 1981. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at the Newdale United Church, Newdale. Rev. Tim Crouch will officiate.
