CLARK: Louisa Blanche "Lou" Clark passed away peacefully, with family at her side, the evening of March 10, 2011 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre, at the age of 87. Lue was born to John and Lena (Mortimer) Nevin on February 11, 1924 in Brandon, Manitoba. She attended Central School and Earl Haig, walking from her 4th Street North home just north of the current Sportsplex. At age 16, she met Walter (Wally) Clark and they were married just after her 18th birthday, on February 16, 1942. The following January, a daughter Carole (Spike Allen) arrived. Lue, Wally and Carole spent part of the war years in Victoria, B.C. where Wally was stationed. Apart from a year in Regina, Lue spent the rest of her life in Brandon, making many friends and acquaintances. In 1947, son Greg (Brenda) was born, followed by another son Bruce (Shelly) in 1950, and a daughter Andrea (Dennis Wood) in 1955.When her children were old enough Lue joined the workforce, starting at Woolworth's as a clerk. She later worked as a receptionist at Brandon Clinic and then for Dr. Scott. After leaving Dr. Scott's office in 1973, she was employed by the Unemployment Insurance Commission for 4 years. She becameself-employed as a Regional Distributor for Beauty Counsellor Products after a short stint as a Real Estate Agent for Joan Parker in the late 70's. She also managed Things Engraved in the former Brandon Gallery and worked for good friend Millie Jarvin at Lighting Unlimited. Lue and Wally spent many enjoyable years square dancing with the Circle 8's where she served as Secretary Treasurer for the Western Manitoba Square Dance Federation. Lue'stime with the Toastmaster's Club of Brandon was both rewarding and enjoyable, winning awards for her speaking. Lue also spent time painting, sewing, and embroidering, and would try anything to satisfy her artistic and creative side. After retirement, Lue turned her energies to volunteer work. She was an active member of St. Mary's Church, serving on different committees. Lue was a member of the Parkinson's Society, and the Diabetics Support Group. She served on the Senior's Advocates Group, often conducting interviews on their behalf on Access T.V. She was actively involved with Seniors for Seniors, serving two terms as President. Lue was predeceased by her husband Wally in May of 1993, grandson Danny Allen in 1986, as well as brothers Cec and Andy Nevin, sisters Millie "Grace" Vance and Melissa Burton. Besides her children she also leaves behind: Grandson Shawn Allen (Melanie) and their daughters Stephanie, Lauren and Chelsea; Grandson Doug Allen (Marie) and their son Ewan; Granddaughter Angie (Chris Veilleux) and their daughter Julianna, as well as sister-in-law Molly Nevin and many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. A memorial celebrating Lue's life will take place at St. Mary's Anglican Church May 10, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Donations in Lue's memory can be made to St. Mary's Anglican Church Renovation Fund, 401 - 1st Street, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 2W8.
