SKAFEL: Jon Robert Jonsson - BSc, MBA, DHA, CHE, FACHE. Peacefully and with his family at his side, Jon passed away on Saturday, April 9th, 2011, in St Thomas, Ontario, in his 75th year. Loved husband of Selena “Ann“ (Ivill) Skafel and father of Andrew (Laurie Kizik) and Paul (Betsey Baldwin). Much loved “Afi” of Emmett and Owen. Dear brother of Michael (Janice Greaves, Matthew, Erika). Dear son-in-law of Lillian Ivill and brother-in- law of Margaret Hanel. Jon was born in Winnipeg, on April 26th, 1936 and grew up in Brandon, the son of the late Dr. Einar and Ena (Sparks) Skafel. He received his BSc from Brandon College. Jon was the retired C.E.O and President of the St. Thomas- Elgin General Hospital. He was an active community participant in the Rotary Club, Alzheimer Society, VON as well as serving on committees of Ontario Hospital Association and the Ministry of Health. He found great joy at the St. Thomas Golf and Country Club, and on extended family ski and camping trips. A Memorial service to celebrate Jon's life was held at Knox Presbyterian Church, St. Thomas on Wednesday, April 13. Arrangements with Williams Funeral Home, St Thomas. Remembrances would be appreciated to the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital Foundation, St Thomas or the London Health Sciences Centre (Renal Unit), London.
