BURT: Gladys Martha (Fletcher). It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great- great-grandmother on Friday, April 8th, 2011. She was born September 24th, 1916 to John and Catherine Fletcher on a farm five miles south of Oak River, Manitoba. Her early childhood was spent in the Oak River District. At eight years old she and her sister, Bessie accompanied their parents on a visit to the old country, County of Tyronne, Ireland. Gladys married Leonard John Burt on October 27th, 1937 and they farmed in the Lothair district for over 35 years. They raised five children and she was kept busy during that time as a homemaker as well as being involved in a number of outside chores. She drove a school van for a number of years, belonged to the Lothair Daly Guild and participated with her neighbors in Quilting Bees. In the fall of 1972, Mom & Dad moved to Rivers where they purchased a home. She worked at Rivers Home Bakery for a few years. She belonged to 55+ Senior Club where she participated in cards, lawn bowling and other activities. During their time in Rivers Mom & Dad visited friends and relatives in Ontario, Quebec and vacationed in North and South Dakota. When Dad passed away in January, 1982, she continued to live in the house they purchased and then moved to Westwood Lodge in 1994. She lived there until health forced her to move into Birch Lodge Nursing Home in Hamiota in 2008. She participated in a number of activities at Birch Lodge including, listening to music, dancing, visiting with fellow residents, baking, puzzles and bingos. She was a loving and compassionate mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and great- great-grandmother. Mom is survived by children, Marlene (Murray) Genung, Mayvis (Jim) Sesak, Jack (Wendy), Brian (Margaret), Linda (Syl) MacDougall; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 9 great- great-grandchildren and brother -in-law Cliff (Beryle) Burt. She is also survived by a number of nephews and nieces who were special to her during her life. Mom was predeceased by her husband Leonard in January 1982; parents John and Catherine Fletcher, sister Bessie (Wes) Brandon and infant sister, Margaret Jane. Also predeceased by two nephews Daryl Brandon and Doug Burt in 2009. Funeral Service was held at Oak River United Church on Wednesday, April 13th, 2011. Rev. Glenna Beauchamp officiating. Pallbearers were six grandsons: Donald Genung, Jamie Burt, Shawn Sesak, Brent Burt, Chris Sesak, and Patrick MacDougall.
