DOWNIE: June 21, 1932—April 21, 2011. Thomas (Tom) Edwin Downie passed away suddenly on April 21, 2011 at his home in Grosse Isle, Manitoba at the age of 78 years. He will be dearly missed by his spouse of 57 years, Edith, his son Thomas (Michelle); grandchildren Kate and John (Tanya) Downie. He is survived by his sister Elizabeth Downie and his brother Robert (Myrtle) Downie and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents John and Eleanor Downie, his sister Louise and brother Don Downie. Tom had worked for a few years with CPR before moving on to MTS which he retired from in 1991 after 34 years of service. Prior to that Tom had served with the Princess Patricia Regiment of the Canadian Armed Forces in Korea. Tom was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Korean Veterans Association throughout his life. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing with his dearest friends. He was very involved in curling in Brandon, Stony Mountain and Stonewall. He will be dearly missed by his many relatives and friends whose lives he touched. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 28 at 11:00 a.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Grosse Isle Community Hall or a charity of your choice. MacKenzie Funeral Home Stonewall in care of arrangements.
