STOOP: Anthony Joseph (Tony). March 28, 1944 - May 10, 2011. Tony passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family in the early morning of May 10th following his third battle with cancer. Tony was born in Rotterdam, Netherlands to Jan and Mary Stoop. He is deeply missed by his wife, Kim, sons Scott (Marie), and Darcy (Cat). Tony is also mourned by his eleven siblings and their families and Kim’s family in Manitoba. Countless friends and acquaintances are saddened by Tony’s death and the loss of his sense of humour, generosity, and caring nature. Tony’s family immigrated to Canada from Holland in 1959. Tony held several jobs but spent most of his hard-working life with Brewer’s Distributing Limited (BDL) and Engineered Homes, where he, his father and three brothers worked together for numerous years. Tony found “Freedom 56” in the year 2000, when he retired from BDL and became a masterful home manager and stay at home Dad allowing Kim to work full time and obtain her master’s degree. Tony was a wonderful husband and proud father. He enjoyed bowling, curling, golfing and watching sports. He volunteered on social and financial committees for both Engineered Homes and BDL. A celebration of Tony’s life was held on Monday, May 16th at Mountain View Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations honouring Tony may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Calgary Health Trust; please specify Palliative Home Care team. The family thank Jodi deWynter and Nicky McLaughlin from the Palliative Home Care team for their exceptional care of Tony and our family. We also deeply appreciate the compassionate treatment by Dr. Vickers, Bonnie-Mai and the Day Care staff at Tom Baker Cancer Centre.
